Pastel drawing, collage, photo and Apophysis layers a longing for your arms layers of silence one after another / peeling the onion – waiting for you / in the stillness of reverie there is only surrender / I open my fist to let you come through how many times can I come to this water / ask the same question – feel the same pain / and how many times can I come to surrender / and ask that the water will take me again it’s an old returning – the lesson still to be learned / and in the ache of separation a longing for your arms / a longing for your arms no other lover could be so familiar / no other lover / could touch me like you / until that moment of total surrender / no other lover will do but you it’s an old returning – the lesson still to be learned / and in the ache of separation / a longing for your arms / a longing for your arms / a longing for your arms

How? / Well, to first state the obvious, this is two photos merged together. I had to shoot both subjects with the same lighting angle. The only difference being the small subject was shot from above to get the right perspective to stand on the large hand. Both photos were layered in Photoshop and corrected to match. I had to extract both from their white backgrounds (they were shot against white) and then positioned within the frame. I placed another layer between the two and “painted in” a shadow under the small subject with a soft black brush and changed the blend mode of that layer to multiply, and making of course, the shadows darker directly around the shoes according to the light direction. I prefer painting in the shadows as I get more control as to where they go. There’s even a slight shadow across the large thumb. I always say, if you notice the shadows, then you’ve done a bad job. Then I applied a gradient for the background. I post processed the whole image in Lightroom where I desaturated the image slightly, increased the clarity and applied a minor split tone of a light brown color (hence the warm tone). That’s it!

Some may be under the impression that I only take closeup pictures of Balloons at Fiesta ! The big picture here to entertain as well, watching all these Beautiful Balloons dancing about the sky all at one time ! For now I’ll say 2007, will go back and check ! I’m already getting E-mails about Balloon Fiesta 2009, that must mean something, like maybe planning now is good strategy ! for the first full week of October. Enjoy the momentary view captured here, wait sixty seconds and the entire scene changes ! from this angle of the field on a normal day the balloons are comming at me, but earlier the winds were opposite, then the calm came ! by this time they were all scattered ! gosh ! I even remember the words from the fellow next to me in a wheelchair, He had his Canon, with one of those extra long sport lenses, He said the Kids will love this one ! I asked their ages, he said 75 and 76 they couldn’t make it this year, a close family friend passed away ! Life happens! and there are Beautiful moments to share as well ! I am a missionary and was born in Northern Ireland and now live in London. My passion and inspiration to work and help these precious poor is born from my personal relationship with God. his love and mercy changed my life completely in 1986. 50 of the 64 children from this village have never gone to school. Mary is 12 years old and she cares for her younger brother. She never has gone to school like most in Tunga/Zuga village. I called this photograph “what If”. What if someone paid the £70 -$120. per year for her school fees, uniform and text books?. What if someone wanted to give Mary a future where she could learn to read, write, and what if Mary learned skills that would earn her money and she could help her younger brother also to go to school? / What if Mary had the change to be what she wants to be, a Nurse? What if someone took the what if and made it all possible for her?. ALL MONEY RAISED FROM SALE OF MY ART, AND DONATIONS MADE VIA OUR CHARITY WEBSITE, GOES TO HELP THESE PRECIOUS CHILDREN. WE TAKE NOTHING OUT OF WHAT YOU GIVE TOWARDS CHARITY OVERHEADS. WE ARE NOT SALARIED AND COVER OUR OWN TRAVEL EXPENSES. SO ALL THAT YOU GIVE GOES TO THESE CHILDREN To make a donation, or find out more, Please visit our Charity Mission website: http://www.philadelphia33.org/ Camera: canon EOS400D. This is what I saw in my mind’s eye, when I framed the picture in the viewfinder. My eyes and brain knew it was greens and browns but that part of my brain that really sees things showed me this. Blues, ice crystals, winter on its way….I REALLY LOVE this!!! Edited in Photoshop Elements 3. / /
I believe everyone wears masks at one time or another. The masks we wear are masks of Life,Love,Joy…....Death,Hate,hiding Fears and Tears!People use them for good and for evil. Some people have many, some have few…..it takes time to get know someone beneath the “mask”. And sometimes you never find out who someone truly is. This watercolour pencil drawing on heavy watercolour paper ( 30 cm / 42 cm )is part one of the new ” MASK” series which will be shown in several exhibitions throughout the Tyrol at the carnival time next year. Acryllic + Ink on Canvas 50×60cms Painted specifically for the Mirrors Exhibition ‘09 / “Beauty is not just an image, it’s a feeling” “Mirrors” is a Charity Art Exhibition Benefitting the Butterfly Foundation / Raising much needed funds to support Eating Disorder patients, their families & loved ones, whilst also raising awareness in the wider community. The event also seeks to promote positive Body Image through art… / “Expressing, transforming and clarifying the shades of limelight that frame our body image.” / Currently on at the Mori Gallery in Sydney until October 24, for more event details see here / And read about other bubbers involved here Whilst What If I’m A Mermaid… is an obvious reference to the subject of the painting, it’s also a line from one of my favourite songs by Tori Amos, which is as open to interpretation & woven with different meanings & messages as this painting perhaps is… there are threads in both to which i feel we can all on some level relate. When it came to elaborating on what those messages were or are for the sake of the exhibtion… Well… I wrote one artists statement… followed by another… and then another… and another. Somewhere around 10 i decided to stop… It was not that i was unhappy with a single one of them, quite the opposite, each seemed to inspire another thought, i’d tilt my head & see yet another perspective, many of which weren’t even conscious in my mind whilst painting… / What it made me realise was that more than anything this painting was not so much about me expressing or conveying my thoughts, nor was there a singular message that i want or wanted people to be taken from it… purely & simply it was aimed at inspiring thought in a different circle… & so rather than cloud that thought with words, i decided to let you ponder… “What If I’m A Mermaid…” You can see my painting from last years exhibtion here / As well as the prints i donated of my “Girls of La Mar” series… / Liquid Diamonds / Caught A Lite Breeze / Girl & The Sea More on Mirror’s soon
