Taken at one end of the Whalers Tunnel, below the Round House in Fremantle, Perth, Western Australia. / Camera – Nikon D90 / 1/800s – F/4.5 Bit of info: The Whalers Tunnel was constructed in 1837 by Fremantle Whaling Company under the Round House to move goods between the original port at Bathers Beach and the town and to provide access to the town for the whalers. It was Western Australia’s first tunnel and is of exceptional significance as the only structure remaining of the Whaling Station complex. There is a secret side tunnel leading up to Gunners Cottage which was built when the Whalers Tunnel was used an air raid shelter in World War II.

The historic Mary D Hume sits on the river banks near the mouth of the Rogue River in Gold Beach, Oregon, where the brackish water, tidal movement, swift currents, and Pacific storms take a heavy toll. The vessel was built in 1881 and served as a whaling vessel until 1978 when it came back to its place of birth and was listed with the National Register of Historical places. The Mary D Hume boasts the longest Pacific coastal service of any boat, and recorded the longest whaling voyage on record; six-and-a-half years.
