Derelict Pier at Weston-super-Mare, UK. Its sadly fenced off with CCTV so theres no chance of jumping a fence. Im thinking tho that at low tide you can walk to it on the rocks from further up the coast… Further investigation needed I think!!

At Weston Bend State Park in N.Western Missouri….. / This is along the Bluff Trail…to the right is the Missouri River…..to the left my all time FAVORITE hiking trail PERIOD! I have found so much in this park but this particular trail offers soooo much to see and find. / Turkey, deer, mushrooms, racoons, flowers, massive wild grape vines, and much much more! On my last hike here (it’s a 30 min. drive from home so I can’t go very often) I was able to hike alone, feeling safe, and got to get with-in 5 feet of a wild doe who just looked at me and kept foraging. I counted 32 different kinds of mushrooms/19 kinds of flowers/7 turkey/2 snakes/6 skink lizards/1 skunk!.......a great hike! / This photo was taken last fall when the whole river bluff area was changing to amazing colors.

I see a lot of strong black and white, and monochrome, showing up along with the spectacular color. / And let me take this opportunity to thank you again for the extent to which you all enhance my visual experience and knowledge. I am filled with admiration for the photographers here, your skill, the unusual subject matter, brilliant captures of impossible color and shadow, and sense of play. / I’m a generation’s difference at least to many of you, and the photographers much present in my growing up life are not the same ones you know. When I posted the portrait I did of Georgia O’Keeffe, using the Alfred Stieglitz photograph of her, I was surprised that he was unknown to many. So if you’d had some pleasure in discovering these Americans of yore, may I direct you to a few other favorites of mine? / One, a photographer of the north west wilderness & Yosemite, who trudged around mountains with a huge Hasselblad, or Agfa or one of its ancient view camera relatives, is Ansel Adams. He was famous for long exposures and a brand new crystal clarity in pictures that few equaled. / Two, (also three four & five) The Weston family: Brett, Edward, and Cole. The latter recently passed away. The whole family did brilliant work, Brett’s my favorite, he worked in the forties, possibly into the 80’s, the family lived long lives. I know them from the area I live in and their ongoing fame in San Francisco, they’re locals survived by grandchildren keeping their galleries and memories alive. Again, pioneers in black and white film, and people whose work may interest the fine practitioners here. I wish I had the sense to put a link here, but if you type in any of their names, pages of their work appear. I hope it’s a good romp for newcomers to these boys.

Colorful mountains within Death Valley National Park. These colors are caused by the oxidation of different metals (red, pink and yellow is from iron salts, green is from decomposing tuff-derived mica, and manganese produces the purple). Called the Artist Drive Formation, the rock unit provides evidence for one of the Death Valley area’s most violently explosive volcanic periods. The Miocene-aged formation is made up of cemented gravel, playa deposits, and much volcanic debris, perhaps 5,000 feet thick. Chemical weathering and hydrothermal alteration are also responsible for the variety of colors displayed at Artist Palette.

View of the Badwater Basin from Dante’s View within Death Valley National Park. Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America, with an elevation of 282 feet below sea level. Dante’s View is at elevation 5,475 feet, thus this photo depicts a drop of 5,757 feet. The basin below is white as it made up of almost pure table salt. This salt flat was first created 2000 to 3000 years ago by the drying-up of the 30-foot deep Recent Lake.
