I was in a hurry one afternoon, and on my way out to run some errands, opened up my front door, and found this unusual looking moth on the door frame. I started to keep going, then something made me stop, grab my camera and take a few pictures of it… I’m glad I did, as I discovered later after searching online, that this Luna Moth is quite rare to see one during the day, and they only live about a week, and are about as wide across as our hand….

A wonderful place to relax the world away in this natural hot tub setting… and also a great place for viewing the Northern Lights of Alaska… This is actually a natural thermal hot springs… known as Chena Hot Springs Rock Lake, located about 60 miles Northeast of Fairbanks, Alaska. The water temperature is 110 degrees year round, and the depth of the lake varies daily, depending on the activity of the Springs itself, but is typically around 4 feet in depth…. You don’t even notice the below 20 degree temperatures as you exit the lake and head back to the bathhouse….

My heart and soul are literally in the West…. and so hopefully… with a little luck… I will find myself living back out there by summer’s end as I sure find myself completely at home and at peace there…. I was driving along in Wyoming this past summer and this lake, the stormy sky and wonderful reflections sure captured my attention… It was so calm and so quiet and I had the whole place to myself… heavenly comes to mind… this is Sodergreen Lake found on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming….

Not too many folks now-a-days find the time to sit and actually take a pen to paper, and write a letter to a friend or a loved one… The computer age we live in just makes it so much more convenient to send someone an email, or a text message on our cell phone… but… I for one, like to try to make that time for the loved ones in my life… and I do truly enjoy writing letters… and receiving them too….

The skies of Alaska filled me with such amazement every day… they were always filled with such beautiful tones, no matter what time of the day it was… it was the icing on the cake of all the awesome mountain ranges and wilderness below it… or in this case… it reminded me very much of a Cotton Candy Sky…. This day was also VERY windy and if you look closely, you can see some of the blowing snow here as well…. Lost In The Wilderness Of The Last Frontier.

I have a few favorite places in the US… The Teton Mountain Range in Wyoming, Glacier National Park in Montana, and practically the whole “Last Frontier” state of Alaska… I also love the feel that fog can give an image… combine two of these elements… and here you have Denali National Park in Alaska on a foggy morning… The fog was hanging really low across the valley floor and also across the mountain tops….

When you are in the Teton mountain range in Wyoming, you will see a variety of wildlife roaming the Jackson Hole region… elk, deer, bears, foxes, and bison just to name a few. This one such bison was grazing right along side of the road at sunrise one morning this past summer… with Mt. Moran in the background of this shot!

This is my favorite time of the day… and it doesn’t matter if I’m lost somewhere in the mountains of the West… or if I find myself sitting on the shore of an ocean… or just gazing up at a dramatic sky from my back deck… I will never tire of seeing the fading light of day…. This little rustic lodge, sits in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness in the Chugach Mountains, about 40 miles North of Valdez, near the Worthington Glacier and State Recreation Area, in a region known for it’s Heli-skiing… It was closed up when I passed it by and was also for sale… how my mind was spinning with wonder and fascination at the possibility of owning such a wonderful place, in the vast wilderness of the Last Frontier State of Alaska…. Looking at this old rustic stone bridge kind of makes me think it could be located near an old mill some place… it’s actually the bridge across Standing Stone Lake (Standing Stone State Park) in Hilham, Tennessee, just outside of the Cookeville region and in the Cumberland Plateau of North Middle Tennessee on State Highway 136…. Hopes…Dreams…Western Scenes. Shadows Where I Stand.
