  • This painting represents the transformation of the goddess Boann into the River Boyne. Boann’s husband was Nechtan, who was keeper of the sacred well Segais (the Well of Wisdom). Around the well grew nine magical hazel trees, from which grew magical crimson hazelnuts. The nuts fell into the well feeding the five colorful salmon that lived inside the well. Each salmon represented wisdom obtained through the five senses and had distinctive crimson spots on their bellies from eating the hazelnuts. All, but Nectan and his assistants, were forbidden to approach the well. This restriction irked Boann, and she decided one day to approach the well. To spite her husband, whom she believed greedily coveted the well, Boann approached the well counter clockwise. But what she didn’t know is that the well itself had specific conditions in which one could gaze into it. One must approach clockwise three times before looking straight and steadily into the well or one’s eyes would burst from the power of the wisdom contained within. Boann peered cautiously into the well, which caused the water to rise angrily and it took one of her eyes. Because she approached the well counter clockwise, she had further angered the waters and so the well erupted with a torrent. Boann fled from the rushing waters losing an arm and a leg before the angry waters reached the sea, leaving behind a 70 mile long river, now called the Boyne River. Having lost one eye, one arm, and one leg, Boann was transformed. She existed from that point on somewhere half in and half out of the physical world. She became the soul of the river, but also something much more powerful. For when she released the waters of Segais, she freed the salmon of knowledge into the world. Now humans had access to the wisdom reserved only for the gods. Anyone who ate the flesh of the salmon, instantly possessed the knowledge they contained. Boann then became the patron goddess of poetic and spiritual inspiration. Her influence bridges the gap in the wisdom of mind to allow the feminine nature in each of us to stream into our being. Her sacrifice represents the transformation of the self that is required for wisdom to enter. Her essence is present in all rivers. To call upon her, one must simply invoke her name while sitting next to a river and listen with a clear mind and an open soul. Her gift of wisdom will transform you. • It seems to rise from deep within us…. / yet maybe even beyond us…. / a sadness that defies our understanding / or our very will, / a sadness that comes from a place outside of our own existence… / that engulfs us indomitably. We who walk the Earth so gently, / know that this connection, / stronger than the gravity that holds us to her, / brings with it the knowledge of her pain / and the infinite lifetimes of sorrow. / Is this the source of our unknown sadness? This ancient wellspring from within the heart of the Earth… / wells up and breaks forth, flowing through us, / the tears of eternity, the pain of the ancient ones, / a sadness that knows no bounds, / to be set free through us, through our hearts and eyes, / and opening us to receive the flow of awareness, / healing and a renewed potential for life.

  • This image was photographed at the waterfront in the OLD TOWN of DUBROVNIK/CROATIA Judged by Tuck Leong at Melbourne Camera Club/open EDI/Highly Commended Death in Dubrovnik…............ well WHAT did happen to…..........BRITT LAPTHORNE this title has to do with the complexities of a missing girl…..... For those who live outside Australia you maybe interested to know that BRITT LAPTHORNE/ 21-year-old Melbourne woman went missing from a nightclub in the Croatian town of Dubrovnik on September 18. Her body was found many days later washed up near rocks not far from the city centre. Last year I was fortunate enough to visit this wonderful city of DUBROVNIK…...........I felt I had found paradise and had been told this was a most magical place to take photographs. And yes/ I had found paradise and started to wonder about the war here in ‘91 /Death in Dubrovnik…...and then I started to think about this beautiful young woman taken tragically away from her family. I walked the streets of the Old City and surrounds for nearly a week. The more I thought about her the more I wanted to find out about her and so sat in a local internet cafe and tried to read as much as possible about her. So this only made me think more about this young woman and how her family must have felt at the time .So then as I walked the streets every crack in the old walls /every crack in the pavement I photographed /I asked myself did she walk this way….........did she see the beauty I was seeing….... / This image was taken in Dubrovnok and is of the Fuego Latino Club where BRITT LAPTHORNE visited the night she died……..........well some locals say she did visit the club and some say she didn’t! These images were taken from a 4th fl. balcony overlooking the nightclub. I watched for about 15 minutes. It would be impossible for this young woman’s exit from the nightclub to go undetected by the camera. I wonder why Britt’s parents could not see their daughter exit the club when they watched the film footage from that night…...... / this image was taken at the small port in the OLD TOWN of Dubrovnik/this image is not meant to offend but something did happen to this young woman…...... .............sometimes we don’t know what we’re looking for….......this image was taken at a hotel on the outskirts of Dubrovnik. The puzzle and anguish of this mystery can be too much for a family to experience…......... I’m going to tell you what’s on my mind! / looking for answers

  • Medium: Digital / Size: 9.2” x 5.2” / Description: Completed in 2007 by digitally colouring ink drawings of 2 tripods, each taking 3 hours to pen. Based on the brilliant novel War of the Worlds by H G Wells. I wanted to really design the tripod in a different way to what had been done before. I wanted to show that the machines themselves were originally designed by the martians to use on their own dusty home world, hence the desert inspired hoods. Also, after extensive reading of the books, I devised my own interpretation of the legs and drew up sliding disk mechanisms that would allow the tripod a graceful movement. I designed them with my own back story, in that the Martian’s had surveyed our planet since the dinosaurs and modeled their walkers on the giant lizards to strike fear into our minds. I was a long process, but it wanted to do it justice. In fact, the tripod design I have concocted is still a work in progress and I will devote more time to their workings. • / I find the patina of age very intriguing and exciting to recreate in paint…I always have cuts of MDF and Masonite primed with gesso waiting in the wings, ready for when inspiration hits me…lately I’ve been preoccupied with doors and things to do with doors….I made this door old…very old…it has withstood the test of time and all kinds of weather and has been painted many times, attesting to a tale of many owners…lately someone dressed it with a shiny new red door knob…why? if it could talk it would tell many stories.... Watercolour with Acrylic on Gessoed Masonite “Too little has been said of the door / It’s one face turned to the night’s downpour / It’s other to the shift and glisten of firelight”...excerpt Charles Tomlinson / Door #6 / Door#5 / Door #4 / Door#3 / Door #2 / Door #1
