I am adding this Journal entry for all my friends and contacts that I have invited to Red Bubble from other Photography Sites etc. So many of you have already joined and it is really heartwarming to see you all here. I know it can be a little hard to understand how the Bubble works so hopefully I can make it a little easier for you by directing you all to this Journal Entry (JE) to give you some hints and tips on making the most out of Red Bubble :) :) Thank you so much for joining or at least having a look :) :) VBS HomePage and RedBubble Page. First off I would suggest adding these to your contacts. :) By adding these three into your contacts, you will receive information on the Red Bubble community into your Activity monitors. That way you will know right away about importance changes and announcements :) :) Selling you Works Okay, okay. I admit it …. that is what really attracted me to Red Bubble to begin with ;) It’s not so much the sales for me now and you will understand that the longer you stay involved with Red Bubble and the wonderful Community vibe here. But yes, we all want to sell our works and make money. :) :) Red Bubble has many options for selling our works and are introducing new options all the time. Ranging from Cards … all the way up to Fully Framed Prints. These are the dimensions for the files that you will want to have your works to be able to sell in each category: Cards: about 1300 by 900 pixels (1 megapixel) Small wall art print: about 1600×2400 pixels (4 megapixels) Medium wall art print: about 2160×3240 pixels (7 megapixels) Large wall art print: about 2560×3840 pixels (10 megapixels) For t-shirts, please upload PNGs that are 12” x 16” in size, with pixel dimensions of 2400×3200 pixels. You can access a template for t-shirt designs The Forum Red Bubble has a wonderful Forum where we can become so much more involved community wise :) It’s a great place to meet new people and also have deep and meaningful discussions and a wide range of varied topics or simply have fun :) The Forum also includes important updates you may miss and has many FAQ’s etc regarding Red Bubble itself. It might pay to have a look around in there too. To get to the forum, click on the People Tab at the top of the screen … then look down the bottom of the page that opens. Or you can click HERE Personalizing your Profile Some of us like to Personalize our Profile pages … or even just add quirky parts of ourselves to our pages and posts. Red Bubble does not use HTML, it uses a basic form of a code called Textile. It’s a fairly simple code to follow, so if you wanna know how to make a link, add a small picture and similarly personalize yourself here, I have written a few [HOW TO] ’s, hopefully explaining in simple terms how to do certain things using the code that Red Bubble uses. RSS If you are familiar with RSS, Red Bubble offers feeds on the Forum and also on every bodies Portfolio and Journal Pages. Keep an eye on the HomePage for any updates to this in the future. Simple Text Formatting As we are typing we can make our words Bold etc. by formatting the text we are using, here are some of the more basic ones you might want to use from time to time. Today I went back over my profile and journal entries and realised I’ve only been on RedBubble for 6 weeks. In that time so much has happened… I’ve collaborated a few times, met people for coffee to talk art, organsied a Melbourne Meet up, helped RedBubble artists get their stuff into galleries (and sold some!), been interviewed for ‘the chair’ and am in the middle of working out how to open a RedBubble Gallery or similar somewhere in Melbourne. I’ve also learned that I can only sell photos of my bottom! It’s amazing what you can get done when you really believe in something and focus on making it happen. The people on RedBubble have made it so special for me. The standard of work is always improving making logging on the best feeling. I am inspired to be creative and try new things. I am drawn to the amazing relationships and interactions shared on here. I am so thankful to be part of such a wonderful creative community. Thank you all for making me feel so welcome.

Welcome my fellow Deviants! Greetings to all of you that took my advice in my journal over on deviantArt and came over here to RedBubble! There have been quite a few it seems to come on over and explore things. This place is quite different than DA as you may be finding out, but the differences I feel are also better as you will see. So I thought that I would go ahead and throw a little primer together for you guys, kinda a FYI for ya! I hope this helps you guys! I also am going to feature a few works from some of ya down below :) 1) RedBubble is FOR the Artist!- DA charges people for having a ‘subscription’ and also a ‘premium prints subscription’. When a user does NOT have a premium print subscription, they can only make 10% profit of their sales. When they have a premium subscription, artist only gets 50% of markup with DA getting the other 50% of artist profit. RedBubble is 100% free, costs nothing to join, there is NO member subscription, the artist keeps 100%!! of ALL profits with RB only getting the base price. There is NO ‘premium print subscription” on RB. 2) NO Popularity Contest Here!- Yes You read right, there is NO popularity contest here. Everyone is one and the same, all on the same level. Sure, your statts are accessible but are NOT displayed on the front of your page. In fact they are actually kind of hard to find lol I don’t even recall where they are at! There is no “popular” area of any kind, and all that there is really is the art of the front page. Nice huh? Thought many of you would like that! 3) A Structured Groups/Clubs System—- DA has been saying that they would something in this form now for years, literally, it took RB like a week to do it lol You can see all the groups here 4) Borders and Watermarks—-Do NOT add border for images which you are uploading here, as it generally a pain in the rear for when they print things. As such, they discourage it. The same for watermarks, as RB has a built in watermarking system, and if you upload an image that has a watermark then that image when sold will have one on it. (Though I am sure they would flag it first) 5) * True Theft Prevention!-* RB has an option that places a 1 pixel gif overlay on top of your images, so when someone tries to download an image of yours, instead they get a 1px gif! 6) The HTML here—- Ok all things considered, the HTML here is a lil whacky and unique. There is a cheat Sheet there that will help you will that and also a Firefox extension you can use, which I use and has been a total lifesaver. 7* *Getting Started On RB!- There is a BUNCH of things that have been posted here in the forums to help you guys out! When in doubt, always head there. These forums are VERY different than DA as teh age here is older and the atmosphere much more professional. Tutorials and Tips for Newcomers There is a wealth of info there including how to make a site badge, slideshows showing your RB portfolio, banner images, How to make T-shirts for sale, etc etc. 8*) “The Atmosphere Here!-” It is quite different as you will see. The owners of the site and admins are VERY friendly and helpful, and are fellow full time artist’s as well. The age here is older, as you will notice right away! Many of the people who I have brought here have actually left DA and haven’t looked back simply because they like it better and feel much more comfortable. 9)* “The Upload Process here—-” It is a lil slower, because the servers are in Australia, but not by much. And that is the only slower thing about this site, it loads faster, as a whole, pages and images fly when you click on them. 10) “NO Adverts!-” Yes that is correct, no adverts anywhere, period, which makes for an awesome experience for anyone who sees your work. It also makes for a nice site to send family and friends to show your work. Art the way it is meant to be seen, as art! All In All—- I hope you guys really enjoy it here. It is a really exceptional site that very much has the artist in mind. This is something that I think has been needed. Went to a pre production meeting last night and met some of the other artists who are participating. The three photos of mine I will have on display are Face-Off Stormrider and Wave. I also had some business cards made, which I designed myself with my “Wave photo” on it, with my Redbubble address on it!!!! Its one of the Gold Coast’s newest Cultural Events!!!! This is the biggest sale I have made on RB to date, but what is more important, (and I am even more proud to say) is that the proceeds of sales of this image are pledged to the Wildlife Appeal ... I’m a new dad! And I’m in complete admiration of my wife. She delivered a 10lb 4oz (4.65kg) baby girl last Tuesday night. We’ve named her Zoe and we’re all now adjusting to life as a family of four (our first, Emma, was born in Jan 08). I don’t know what it is about having two children but we feel more like a family now … maybe it’s the complete lack of room in our car. Anyway, it’s a delightful chapter of life.
