(I used myself as the model. I set my camera on the top of the shower and put the timer on) What do you see here? / A girl in her prom dress, crying in the shower, with her last words of wisdom to the world. The message behind the photo is the stress and struggle to thin and beautiful and the pressure that American culture has on her people. The tears shed from being “fat” in high school and being ridiculed for being a size 9 from so many of my class mates was the inspiration. I’m not fat. I have curves. I am a REAL woman, not a 5’9” 120 lb. size 3 barbie. And if you’re not that, you begin to get made fun of, taunted, teased, and told “go kill yourself, fat ass” when youre minding your own buisness walking down the hallway with your boyfriend. With the media today, the barbie-like girl is what’s beautiful in america, and to get somewhere with your life, yo have to be beautiful, and you can’t be full figured and beautiful. I can proudly say that I am 5’5”, 155 lbs. and a size 9 (or 11 sometimes). I am no longer ashamed, and the tears shed are dried and gone. my advice to girls entering high school, or middle school, is what’s written. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Moss / Shot with a Canon EFS 60mm f/2.8 macro lens. As is.
self portrait
I did this when I was at college (high school in NZ) I think I was feeling a little pressured and intimidated by the approach of adulthood responsibility
Another self-portrait for my photography final, “Fragmented Self-Image”. I think the idea is pretty obvious…I used to have an eating disorder, I don’t any more, but the mentality that I need to stay thin and fit still remains and this is my interpretation of that. To post this alone takes me a lot of courage because I am still very, very uncomfortable with my body.
I’m not sure where I was going with this. I found some bananas and cool retro scales when I was raiding Larry’s kitchen looking for lollies and decided to use them in a photo. Actually, I may have been finding a reason to shoot Lauralie’s gorgeous shoes. I’m not usually a fan of studio shooting, but I must say I enjoyed how few photos I took versus how many shots I was happy with. So something about it agreed with me.
Weight Watchers International Folks.. this good looking Dromedary (Camel) and I met in May 2007 .. near the Egyptian Pyramids of Gizeh ..at the outskirts of Cairo / This fellow was standing next to my Touring Bus and his Master .. the Camel driver wanted him to kneel down .. most of the time the Camels do that under loud protesting.. as we can see so clearly here.. So.. to show some sympathy I offered him A piece of Cake In PaintShopPro X2 some changes.. removed the BG for neutral black and frame added Thanks for popping in Folks / Regards / John Camera Canon 30D / ISO 400 / F 6.53 / 1/500
