  • Work exhibited in the Visual Arts Association Group Exhibition ‘Four Seasons’, held Cairns Regional Gallery, Qld. / The exhibition theme was inspired by the Vivaldi’s music ‘The Four Seasons’. Mixed media – archival black ink, acrylic, collage – paper painted, mono & screen-printed, drawing, photo; screen-printed cotton fabric, carpet material; on canvas. Background: I had been working individually on art compositions relative to my passion to interpret music, rhythm, movement and energy through the use of formal visual art elements ie. line, colour, tone, shape, texture and art media. The interpretation of any music requires one’s senses to hear and feel, absorb sound and energies, to internalize and contemplate, as apposed to recording information seen/perceived through the eyes from the physical ‘outer’ world. One has to create and interpret a visionary abstract, from a pure transitional and spiritual sensual state, from one’s own internal environment, the knowledge, understanding and experience one brings to canvas for the moments of manifestation. I jumped at the chance when this exhibition theme came up. Also I am much inspired by Kandinsky and his work, a long time favourite art philosopher and mentor. ....................................... /

  • He must be on a diet…....really…..:) / Quotation: Totie Fields.

  • The Stag was once drinking from a pool and admiring the noble figure he made there. “Ah,” said he, “where can you see such noble horns as these, with such antlers! I wish I had legs more worthy to bear such a noble crown; it is a pity they are so slim and slight.” At that moment a Hunter approached and sent an arrow / whistling after him. Away bounded the Stag, and soon, by the aid of his nimble legs, was nearly out of sight of the Hunter; but not noticing where he was going, he passed under some trees with branches growing low down in which his antlers were caught, so that the Hunter had time to come up. “Alas! alas!” cried the Stag: We often despise what is most useful to us

Hello World! Welcome to Mr Baxter’s Picture of the Week. Each and every Monday I shall peruse the last seven days of images and find one that catches my eye, then post it here, write about it and even link to it from my Twitter account. The winning image will be on sale at a 0% markup for the week, and any sales generated in that time will get the artist double the earnings in RedBubble vouchers at a standard 30% markup. They will also receive a special commemorative certificate and of course exposure, not the sort that gets you arrested though. / / —-—-—- Picture of the Week Champion – Week One – aspenrock Would you just look at this marvellous collection of black and white pixels, even devoid of colour the story is so strong. And none of it is even in the picture, it’s really all about what’s happening outside the door. Is there a fight going on? Some dancing goats? A Formula 1 pit stop? We’ve no idea, but it draws us in and tears at our minds. She’s Jules Winnfield staring into Marsellus Wallace’s briefcase. Books have been written on this unseen. It’s emotive and silent, but leaves me clawing for answers. Good Work AspenRock. —-—-—-- Go and show her your love. Hello World! Yes, it’s Wednesday AGAIN, so it must be T-Shirt of the Week. Every seven days I’ll take a gander at the recent uploads of tees and find one that catches my eye, then post it here, write about it and even link to it from my Twitter account. The winning shirt will be on sale at a 0% markup for the week, and any sales generated in that time will get the artist a 60% margin in RedBubble vouchers. They will also receive a special commemorative certificate and of course fame, not the sort that sends you crazy though. / / —-—-—- T-Shirt of the Week Champion – Week Two – seanseen This has that wonderful and unique feel of being made with a human hand and a pencil. Well I mean it shouldn’t be unique, most of us have hands and pencils, but sometimes it feels that way. / Seriously, look at that turntable, it really has no idea where it’s perspective is, how marvellous, I wish my turntable looked like that, and it’s playing a yellow vinyl. What could it be? The re-release of Yellow Submarine? The special edition of The Velvet Underground and Nico? Who knows, but what on earth are you doing upstairs? Get down there and cut some moves across your 1968 Ege Rya shag-pile rug. Or just go and see who’s fiddling with your record collection. / / A well placed, well coloured and nicely styled drawing. Good Work Seanseen. —-—-—-- / Now go show him some love. • Well since we last looked in on Lil’ Bit… he had made a trip to Best Friends Haven For Animals…started going through training to become a house dog and not a wild aggressive little Taco dog! / All was going well and then the little rascal decided to follow his nose one day and disappeared into the desert for over 5 hours. He was gone in a blink of an eye and no way could a person find this foxy little guy…especially in 110 degree heat…needless to say it was a tense 5 hours and we just had to hope for the best… They told us at Best Friends that it would be hard to break this habit of ranging out, following his nose and neutering was of the utmost priority. It had become a survival instinct even if he had a full bowl of food. He had pretty much gone “Native” during the months he had survived in the wilds of the desert…a huge challenge on our part to take this habit in check. / The very next day he was scheduled to have the neuter opperation..my husband says that he ran away on purpose…wanted to keep his little bag a jewels…LOL!! Well… he did return but upon very careful inspection…standing back and out of range of his huge teeth…it appeared that he had been mauled by a really big animal or a Hawk had tried to pick him up and carry him away. There were 5-6 puncture wounds across his lower back, hips and thighs. / It was going to be impossible to tend to him..he was in a heightened state of aggression and badly wounded. So fast forward to today…he has survived (how I don’t know) as he would allow no one to get close to him for the last three weeks…I would set food down and back away and he would eat every last bit…was drinking water and we would see him maybe twice a day come out from under this huge storage chest in our garage. No signs of rabies and no signs of infection …once again it is truly a miracle this little dog has survived yet another monumental life and death event. He does come in the house now…he still stays well away from myself and my husband…but I will catch him like this capture…from under his blanket just staring at me… / Lil’ Bit and I had became very close…he sat in my lap most every day while I was either at my drawing board or computer. / He his SLOWLY coming around…the pain of what happend to him must have been horrific…I could only offer soothing words and all the water and food (with ground up baby aspirin) he could eat… / Thanks for taking the time to read…send some good thoughts to Lil’Bit…

Hello World! Because I am a man of routine, it’s Picture of the Week time again. Every seven days I’ll peruse the recent image uploads and find one that catches my eye, then post it here, write about it and even link to it from my Twitter account. The repetitive but informative bit: / The winning image will be on sale at a 0% markup for the week, and any sales generated in that time will get the artist a 60% margin in RedBubble vouchers. They will also receive a special commemorative certificate and of course exposure, not the sort that gets you arrested though. / / —-—-—- Picture of the Week Champion – Week Three – Matthew Parsons This is crazy, a muted ‘70s postcard, an abstract shape lovefest and a still from a Tim Burton movie rolled into one, with some subtle vignetting to draw you to the eyes. Not that you really need it, they’re MASSIVE. What is that thing? A tug boat? Tug boat builders in Canada have the sort of comedy streak we need to see in our politicians. And in the corner, ‘La Petite’, surely some fine irony. Love the crop, love the angles, love the colour, love the surrealism. That’s a lot of love. Great eye Matthew. —-—-—-- More work from Matthew. / Go show your appreciation. They will also receive a special commemorative certificate and of course fame, not the sort that sends you crazy though. / / —-—-—- T-Shirt of the Week Champion – Week Three – blakeus This is a beautiful illustration, it reminds me of a Ronald Searle drawing, and that’s no mean feat. My memory is not what it once was and he was a huge talent. Look at Josie dancing there, her hair not pestered by trifles like ‘gravity’, trailing her stuffed companion and a balloon that thinks it’s a flower. Or vice versa. This has a timeless quality that makes you think of summer and your childhood, when you didn’t have to worry about mortgages. I’ve no idea where the island it, perhaps it’s in her head, or her pocket. You should illustrate some children’s books I reckon. Good Work Blakeus. —-—-—-- / Now go show some love. It’s been another busy week on the bubble. Thanks to this inspirational journal by bubbler Lynn Moore we have declared a Community Love In! So be sure to tag your journal with redbubblelove and next week we will feature a few of the most inspirational stories. This week we’ve also picked up tips on everything from selective colouring to finding buyers for your art. Each week we post a weekly wrap up from the Community account, celebrating the big news and the little wins we’ve spotted around RedBubble that week. If you’d like to get these delivered straight to your activity monitor then just add Community to your watchlist. If there was one theme for the week it is the importance of getting out and about engaging not only with the RedBubble community but the people down your street (virtual or otherwise). This week was so jam packed we thought we’d post from the RedBubble account for a change. Here’s a peek at just some of the action: We admired works from these new bubblers: We kicked off the week with a mammoth t-shirt sale. UK artist Rubyred’s latest t-shirt design was featured on the mother of all US t-shirt blogs, Tcritic by Karl Long. Romanian designer Apasun and UK designer Reece Ward also got a mention on UK t-shirt blog hideyourarms.com. / / / Rhys McDonald was interviewed for the Cult of Pop website. Scott Robinson was also featured recently so we think they might have a thing for RedBubble t-shirt artists! Ross Ford and Derek Stewart were featured in US publication, The Artist’s Magazine. You can read the article here. Opening night of Red Door Creative Galleries went off with a bang. If you have a Facebook account, you can imagine you were there as Sleek Images has posted a time lapse video of the launch: / / Ingz was approached by an Australian interior designer asking if she could use an image for her website and Peter Dudley was featured in his local paper, the Sun City News. Thanks to the wonders of the intertron, you can read the full article here. . Flic Manning shared 3 tips to plan and write your book and Craig Goldsmith channelled his artistic talents towards supporting a friend in need. Miron Abramovici announced his exhibition at THE GALLERY in the Summit Free Public Library, New Jersey from August 1 through September 31, 2009. Martin introduced RedBubble artists to the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford and popped into the Saatchi Gallery on his way home only to be confused by plastic wrapping and packing tape (Mr Baxter would have loved it!) / Image from TedGlobal Conference photostream on Flickr And last but not least, Mr Baxter selected another well deserving buyers’ booth winner and also received a rather interesting parcel from an anonymous admirer. / / So over to you … What creative adventures did you get up to this week?

  • A U T I S M M O M W E E K As tributes go, this one is long overdue. Each day for the next seven days I’ll be posting a new image (and maybe an old favorite) from my ongoing collaboration with the gifted and much-admired blithe spirit Autismmom (aka AutismMom2.) One of her self-portraits was recently critiqued on redbubble as “sensual yet sensitive, beautiful.” Autismmom’s timeless and trancendent look could be woven seamlessly into a Renaissance painting or a black and white glamor shot that evokes memories we wish we had of Paris in the forties…and has been (by me!) As artistic inspirations go, I would only add that she is a collaborator’s “dream.” shawhouse “dream” is from a collaboration with autismmom2. photography – autismmom2 / model – autismmom2 / post – shawhouse
