This is the new banner for mikoto.com.au I designed it as part of and overhaul following a nasty incident whereby my site was hacked into. I though a new image was required to rebirth the site.
Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin Shelley, Writer, Poet, Shooting Star. Oil on canvas. / The author (at 18 years old) of FRANKENSTEIN. A woman of such profound personal courage, of stunning highs and lows, it boggles the imagination. Mary, I adore you. / A rebel who dodged convention, whose parents were famous free-thinker free love radicals, whose mother died giving birth to her, who was sent to Scotland at 15 for a good education, and who ran off to live with two of the most famous, revered, dangerous, and notorious wild-men poets (when poets ruled) Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron. It had to be like setting up housekeeping with Mick Jagger & Lou Reed. / Ostracized for romping through English tradition, she and Percy Shelley eloped to France, then moved into a castle on Lake Geneva with Lord Byron, proceded to practice Latin & Greek, write, live, and outdo each other. The very good looking bad boys were notorious for debts, affairs, abandoned children, sexually extravagant lives, and a trail of broken hearts. But they wrote gorgeously. Percy Shelley & Lord Byron remain two of the finest poets of the English language. / In what she called “a waking dream” teenaged Mary Shelley started to write Frankenstein, and published it finally under her own name, producing one more shock that an English woman could conjure stirring horror. She and Shelley traveled, changed countries like you’d change socks & became increasingly famous. Mary was pregnant many times, but six children miscarried, or heartbreakingly lived, to die as toddlers. One boy survived adulthood. She was in and out of depressions, trying to keep Shelley happy and produce her own original work. In rough Italian seas near LaSpezia, the accomplished sailor and non-swimmer Percy Shelley drowned. He was 29. Mary was 25, and felt her life ended. The extremes of drama that populated all their days astonishes. Lord Byron and a friend made a pyre on the beach to burn Percy Shelley’s corpse when it washed ashore. One of the two cut out Shelley’s heart (not an uncommon impulse at the time) and after arguing over who should keep it, decided to send it in a box, unannounced, to Mary. / At a time when women had limited rights, freedoms or possibilities, she turned her back on what she was told she must do, with gusto. What is, after all, an ideal life. She risked far more than her peers ever dared. She did not have an easy time of it. But she chose not embrace the comforts or society that would have driven her mad. It’s more than fair to say this woman really lived. Mary Wollestonecraft Godwin Shelley was dead at 53. ABOUT THE PAINTING: There are only 2 or 3 exisitng portraits of Mary Shelley, and one, painted by Richard Rothwell in 1840, was my reference. It is a peculiar painting of her, age 43. When tackling historical figures, one has to account for rigid art standards of the times. I tried to eliminate what might have been purely the painter’s imposition. Along with what I suspect was a purge of her wild history and monster story telling (making her nice, & vapid) he gave her features considered beautiful then: a long oval face, an extraordinarily high brow for heightened inteligence (same things the Greeks did with that full flesh at brow level) thin lips to prove a lack of avarice, matronly to suit her widowhood, and shoulders in such a drastic slope they deny a skeletal structure. (The Rothwell portrait is on Wikipedia under Mary Shelley’s name). All that seemed an exaggeration, his portrait does not look real to me. So I left in her high cheekbones, softened the oval and lowered the forehead a touch, gave her a fuller mouth, kept the deep eyes. I painted Mary Shelley as the 18 year old who wrote Frankenstein, with thoughts of ghoul and goblin fleeting across her eyes, sensing terrors to come, uncertainty in the present, having to rely primarily on herself, an active imagination, great mind and fabulous story teller. / I have her between the moon and candlelight because it seems to me that’s where she lived. / The Hawks Perch

GOOD FRIDAY MAMMATUS / Photo best viewed large. / / / / / / FEATURED WORKS / “GOOD FRIDAY MAMMATUS” was FEATURED in the group #1 ARTISTS OF RED BUBBLE / / / I took this photo of Mammatus on a Good Friday before Easter in Ashland, Kentucky. The clouds first started rolling in and looked like fluffy white marshmallows. Then in front of the setting sun they dramatically began to change colors. They went from snow white to shades of silvers, pinks, grays, blues and even purples! The colors were quite striking and dramatic; these clouds were nothing like anything I had ever seen before! For a few minutes they turned very dark, and it was a sight I will never forget!! These amazing mammatus clouds lasted about 45 minutes before they exited my area. / / / We were under our second tornado watch of the year, and I found out later that I was standing right under the anvil of a severe thunderhead and that a tornado could have formed at any moment! Luckily for me it didn’t, and I was able to capture some phenomenal, amazing clouds. I can’t quite put it into words other than to say, “I closed my eyes for a few seconds and felt like I had been kissed on my cheek by an angel.” This was one time in my life that I will always remember!!! / / / This photograph of “GOOD FRIDAY MAMMATUS” has won National awards, been published in an Anthology, and has been shown on National television. This image is also featured in several websites and blogs throughout the USA and Australia for educational purposes. / / /

WRITTEN AUG 08 - Hi everyone, I am by no means an expert, but I do have some great, simple tips and hints that can help get you noticed and on your way to selling your shirts. These may have been covered on the forums, but I wanted to streamline it a bit and put it all in one tight package. First, I recommend that you get familiar with copying images and links on Redbubble.com by reading the information on the forums to get a basic idea of it all. Take note of these ideas, and if you have any success since reading this article, drop the thumbnail of your of your sold shirt here with an embedded link to that shirt so we can congratulate you! —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— So here we go, starting with the most obvious thing first - 1. ONLY POST THE BEST DESIGNS IN YOUR PROFILE / I can’t stress this enough, if your design is not as good as it could be, it will bring down your entire portfolio – so go through your portfolio and be harsh in culling anything that doesn’t receive much attention or look as good as the rest. It is much better to have 5 amazing pieces than 30 half decent ones! 2.SHOWING A HIGHER QUALITY PREVIEW IN THE SIDE BAR / You may be aware that you can show a larger preview of your work in the right hand side bar, but this can often be the low quality image that we copy directly off the website. I would recommend for those tech-savvy people, to use a high quality preview file, showing the whole image or using only a zoomed in section of your image. This will give your customers a much better understanding of the quality they will get from the lines/detail of your work. You will notice on most of my works, like this / one, I have included a higher quality preview image in the right hand side bar, in this case it even has a custom watermark – ooh snazzy! There is a simple way to do this – first, after you have uploaded your shirt, go back into the program you used to make the design. Open that design and make it smaller – Width 500px and save it as a jpg. You can make it much larger than this, but I find it to be the best size. Then, upload the jpg to a website like Flickr, Facebook, Myspace or anywhere you can upload a picture. Then copy the link for where that picture is saved – _this can usually be done by right clicking on the image, going to Properties and copying the entire Address (URL). Once you have that link copied, Edit your recently uploaded shirt, and in the description box, after your words, put in an exclamation mark , followed by the link, http://example.com/image.jpg and then follow that with another exclamation point. Redbubble.com uses the exclamation marks as brackets to display images, much like the inverted commas are used to display someone speaking. 3. USING LINKED THUMBNAILS AROUND REDBUBBLE / Example: / Linked Thumbnails are a visual tease, advertising your work. Displayed in the right place they can be very effective. I would recommend going that one step further and displaying your best designs on your home page, shirt previews and in the forums (when appropriate). This is a great example of using linked thumbnails to display your other work – Here , and if you click through to his home page you will see rudeboyskunk has displayed his best work again, in linked thumbnail form. It is actually quite simple to display linked thumbnails around your site. First, go to your home page (by clicking on your name at the top right of the page). In the Clothing section, click on the View All Clothing link. This will display all your clothing works in thumbnail format. For this example (I’m using Internet Explorer), right click on the thumbnail you want to use. Go to Properties and copy the full Address (URL). It is best to open up Notepad, or Microsoft Word and paste the link into there. / Then, under the thumbnail you just clicked on, right click on the Name of the thumbnail, go to Properties and copy the full Address (URL). Paste this under the thumbnail link in Notepad or Microsoft Word. You should have something like this - / http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/clothing/bodycolor:black/cropped/ / size:small/style:mens/view:main/151516 EXAMPLE SHIRT.jpg (IMAGE LINK) http://www.redbubble.com/people/diesellaws/clothing/1572613 EXAMPLE SHIRT (PAGE LINK) Now all you need is to put them together (the end result will look something like this): !IMAGE LINK!:PAGE LINK Then next thing to do is copy that whole lot of text and paste it into your profile section, description, emails and forums. Do the same thing for every thumbnail you want to display. It may be a bit time consuming, but it looks professional and if and you are willing to put in the effort, it will pay off. 4. REPLYING TO COMMENTS/LEAVING COMMENTS/THANKING PEOPLE / No matter how many things are taking up your time in this busy world, there is never an excuse for not replying to, commenting on and Watchlist-ing another artist. This simple (but often forgotten) gesture will start discussions, and more often than not, increase the views of your work. Every now and then, I head to the Clothing page and view the recent works – then I pick out a few I like and comment them, and in most cases, favourite them. If their portfolio is really good, I will even add the artist to my Watchlist. When someone leaves a comment on your work, make a point to reply back to them straight away, thanking them for their comment. They have taken the time to go through the mass of submissions, to end up on your work and gone even further to leave you a comment! You should always thank them for that! Also, if you like an artist, send them a Bubblemail. It takes two seconds to do and it is great for getting tips and building a friendship. When I first started on RB I was really impressed with thickblackoutline , so, I sent her a Bubblemail (and added her to my Watchlist. It wasn’t long before I received some very useful tips and inspiration, and we are now in the process of co-hosting a group. If an artist inspires you, or you have a question, do not be afraid to ask! You never know what kind of tips they will pass on and, they may even like your work! 5. PROMOTING ON OTHER WEBSITES / I’m sure you are all aware of how advertising on other websites can increase sales. But most of you aren’t aware that the best advertising is right in front of you! Most people have a Facebook, Myspace and or Bebo etc. On Facebook, you can post pictures of your artwork in your Photos section – and put a link to the shirt in the description! This will get sent to all your friends on their homepage letting them know that you have just uploaded a new picture – think of how many friends may be interested to know you have just uploaded a Darth Vader Rocks” T-shirt!. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— I really hope these tips help you and I would love to know how you went since implementing some of these hints. If you like, you can send me a Bubblemail! Good luck, Diesel Laws —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / LINK TO THIS PAGE – http://www.redbubble.com/people/diesellaws/journal/1574934-how-to-sell-shirts-hints-and-tips / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-

I made some free buttons for your website and feel free to use them. When you need another text, just ask me, I will do it for you… You just need to copy the address under the button (or any address of any picture at the internet, it works with .jpg and .png) and copy it to your profile / My bubble -> account -> edit your profile -> tell us about yourself You write for this the copied address between two exclamation marks without a space / !copied address! After this you write a double point and the link url-address (http://www.redbubble.com/link…..). At the end it should look like this: / !copied address!:link And at the end a little tip…. When you would like the visitors to see also your older work, not just only the first page… then lead them randomly to any page in your collection… All you have to do is to fill in this form and copy the address you get as a link for example to your my clothes button.... After this visitors will land not only at the beginning pages of your collection, by randomly everywhere…. :) http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865589-2-art.jpg http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865593-2-clothing.jpg http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865597-2-writing.jpg http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865604-2-calendars.jpg http://images-3.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865608-2-wallart.jpg http://images-3.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865610-2-greeting-cards.jpg http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865614-2-bubblesite.jpg http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865621-2-sold-work.jpg http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865624-2-bestseller.jpg http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865630-2-favorite-work.jpg http://images-3.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865637-2-featured.jpg http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1868788-2-website.jpg Read also: Tricks how to sell more… or Well balanced color palettes… or Ultimate Link Collection for creatives!

It is possible to add a very useful tool to every site (RedBubble Profile, Bubblesite, any Art-site or T-Shirt-site…) to see directly and live, who is visiting you…. :) For me it is very informative…..... maybe for you too…....... Now I will describe how to do this…........... You have to go here to FEEDJIT and you will see there in frames, under “Cut and paste the code below into any HTML page for your own instant Live Traffic Feed” a code, looking for example like this: < a href=”http://feedjit.com/ir1/5ceae12346ade7ae/”>< img src=”http://feedjit.com/b/5ceae12346ade7ae.png” alt=”” ISMAP />< /a> Just copy it, paste to the site where you want to see your visitors (write it for example in your comments of a new photo, which you have just posted)... Now you have to copy the last html-address (in this example: http://feedjit.com/b/5ceae12346ade7ae.png) and use it as a “normal” picture you want to post… Just write it between two exclamation marks: ! http://feedjit.com/b/5ceae12346ade7ae.png! (without the empty space….) Now you add the first html-address from Feedjit and use it like a link (in our example: http://feedjit.com/ir1/5ceae12346ade7ae/).... You write it after the picture address after a double point…. And it looks like this: ! http://feedjit.com/b/5ceae12346ade7ae.png!:http://feedjit.com/ir1/5ceae12346ade7ae/ (without the empty space….) It will work and show you your visitors…. When you go to: WATCH LIVE, you can remove your IP, and you don’t see yourself, just the other visitors….. Use for every new site a new code, which you can generate clicking FEEDJIT again…. When you have BLOGGER or TYPEPAD BLOG, you can add this tool to your blogsite too (just click here) and you will get even much more useful informations: for example from which site the visitor is coming, or which site he is using to leave your blogsite…. you even can see which words he is typing in google looking for your blogsite… very cool!......... Because of this adaptation to work this tool here at RedBubble some informations are lost, but anyway, you still can see live your visitors, not only as a number, but as a live feed….................. I love this tool! Try it too…... With a lot o greetings Nuh Sarche Read also: Free buttons for your website… or Little helper to write nice comments… or Use a descreet visitors counter and see informative statistics… Who’s among us?
