  • Webb Bridge is down-to-earth, a project Melbourne can be proud of, built among the superannuated towers of Docklands. It suggests, romantically, the fishing nets, cages, middens and naughty hosiery of the old wharfs. It is biological and ethereal, a stab in the dark and sculptural.

  • Number three in my Webb bridge series of three. Don’t usually go in for the highly manipulated image thing but strangely I don’t have the same qualms about messing with something man made. Had never heard of this place until I found a few pics of it on the bubble and thought I’d check it out. Don’t really like duplicating the work of others either so I’ve used photoshop to give it a bit of a fresh perspective. Webb bridge is in a really exclusive part of town next to a marina full of multi million dollar yachts. The design of the bridge is based on a aboriginal fish trap. On the way back to the car I passed a ‘car yard’ for luxury cards. There were only three cars in the showroom one of them had a ‘B’ with eagle wings sprouting from it, a brand I’d never come across before (a Bentley according to Steven Guy ). I thought it looked pretty nice for $39,900 and then my brain did a double take wait a minute… that’s not… holy crap it’s $399,000!? • I was going through some photo archives from last fall and late summer.. I found this capture Kathy made in late August. I do not know why I passed this by then. Maybe I looked past the art and beauty to ??? Well maybe they will not like it because you don’t have tack sharp focus on the web.. Then I thought no this looks like a very private spot for nature to hid its own art.. I shall upload Kathy’s capture because.. Nuff said.. I like it..LOL / Chuck.. Perhaps A Bathroom Wall

  • In many ways I feel this shot marks an epoch moment in my journey as a photographer as I feel it is the first shot that I have truly achieved the quality of a large format image. I shot it with my 5D mkII with a 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, and my Really Right Stuff pano head and it is made up of 12 shots, shot 10 degrees apart then perfectly stitched together in Photoshop CS4. I have my work displayed in many galleries but most of them are in or near the geographic location they were shot in. These locations not being affluent areas I have found generally that only my smaller cheaper prints sell, however one of these galleries recently opened another outlet in the CBD and have asked me for some of my urban landscapes. I did have a few I was happy with but decided it would be better to reshoot them with my new pro level gear so I’ve spent numerous evenings over the last few weeks in the city re visiting and re shooting some favorite locations. My thinking is that if I display my work in the CBD I might be able to snare some sales from wealthy and/ or corporate buyers but to do this I need big to huge prints of extremely high quality. With this shot I will be able to print a 47” x 17” (120×44cm) print at full resolution. Obviously printing and framing a print this large will be very costly so before I did this I thought I might present it to the rb world to see if you guys and gals out there reckon the shot warrants it. As always all feedback gratefully received and appreciated. Trav Camera: Canon EOS 5D mkII / Lens: EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II USM @ 16mm / Filters: UV / ISO: 200 / Shutter Speed: 8 sec / Aperture: f/16 / WB: Auto / Exposure Compensation: – 1/3rd of a stop / When: 9:02pm on 29/7/09 / Tripod: Velbon with a really right stuff pano head (12 shots) For other shots in this genre check out my Urban Landscapes gallery.
