I think the photo and the lyrics from a song by Michael Joncas say it all. . . This is dedicated to everyone who is experiencing disappointments and needs a little boost for sagging spirits.

A bit of a Gothic mood…based on a wonderful old building in Melbourne.
Taken on the quayside at Polruan, Cornwall. UK.
Spinning in the storm winds and rain, this weather vane was standing on the road towards Hawes in North Yorkshire, till it fell.
The earliest recorded weather vane honored the Greek god Triton, and adorned the Tower of the Winds in Athens which was built by the astronomer Andronicus in 48 B.C. The figure, which is believed to have been 4 to 8 feet long, had the head and torso of a man and the tail of a fish. To the ancients, the winds had divine powers. In Greece and pre-Christian Rome, weather vanes depicting the gods Boreas, Aeolus, Hermes and Mercury decorated the villas of wealthy landowners.

Le Lupin, Mount Tremblant, Quebec, Canada / July 2008. Apparently, there were some vicious storms during the summer of 2007 and they pretty well wiped out a stand of trees in the backyard of the B&B I stay at. My friends, however, have put the downed trees to good use as fuel for their fireplace in the winter. I came across this in the early morning while wandering around after the rain had stopped.
