At Day’s End As the sun goes down over the front range mountains of Denver, Colorado, the Sunflowers turn, in anticipation of the sun coming back up in the morning. Photographed in a field where all you can see for miles and miles is Sunflowers….billions of Sunflowers. An entire sea of yellow and gold….caught in my lens for a fleeting instant, where the whole world was at peace…. Well this is the shot that made it into the 2008 channel ten weather calendar, so I’m pretty proud of that.Getting this into the calendar was my first… ‘public’ recognition of my work so this is a pretty special shot to me. it is lightning over Adelaide looking down from Mount Osmond. It was taken in December 2006 and featured on the following nights news broadcast.

This shot was taken on an overcast and rainy day at Flynn’s Beach in Port Macquarie.. I had to take a shot as the colour of the water was a very nice blue-green.. I was also happy with the way I captured the wave crashing on the rocks offshore.

after many many hours and km’s…. this storm was dead and I thought I had missed a ‘dream shot’. When the thunder comes and you are standing at 12,000 feet, this is probably the last place you want to be. So when the thunder comes and you are the highest object in the Colorado Rockies….run!!! Lightning strikes kill people in the high country every year and needles to say I pretty much high tailed it after shooting this, back to the car as quick as I could. Loveland Pass is a Colorado landmark, and looking here you look out over the Continental Divide. It is the highest mountain Pass in the United States to be plowed and stayed open year around, as trucks carrying hazardous chemicals must cross this way instead of using the Eisenhower Tunnel. I went ahead and decided to process this in HDR using Photomatix and final output through PS CS2, the reason for the HDR was to catch the dynamic light (which seems like I am always chasing) and the drama in the clouds with the approaching thunderstorm. LucisArt used for final detail work.
