Flat Wattle – as the yellow flowers die off they are replaced with red seed cones. This section shows these changes at differing stages of decay and development. It took five years to find this small section of plant that shows the changes from flowering to seed production. Taken in Kings Park, Perth.
This image was shot using the TtV technique and is part of my TtV: Through the Viewfinder Series Photographed using a vintage Argoflex Seventy-five and a Canon. It’s Winter in Australia, which means the Wattle is beginning to bloom. In my area we’ll soon be surrounded by a sea of bouncing little balls of yellow…... Did you know : / - Wattle is Australia’s official floral emblem, having adorned our Coat Of Arms since 1912. / - there are around 950 different species of Wattle….. which is why I have no clue as to which one this is! / - On 1 September 1910 the Sydney Morning Herald stated: / “To many Australians the wattle stands for home, country, kindred, sunshine and love; every instinct that the heart most deeply enshrines.”........ nice :) [canon 1000D, canon scanner for texture, PS watercolour]
the silver wattle provides excellent habitat for seed eating birds like rosellas and cockatoos they eat the haif ripe seed pods and then the seeds .the trees gum or sap is a favoured food of possums like the sugar glider and squirrel gliders i have all so eaten this sap as it is a known bush food .

Whilst trying (and pretty much failing) to get some close shots of rainbow bee eaters, I noticed this kookaburra sitting in nearby tree. He didnt seem to notice me, instead concentrating on a wattle bird who was swooping low overhead. Taken in bushland near the Swan River, Nedlands, Perth. Taken with a Canon 5D and 100-400mm lens @ 350mm , f13, ISO 200, 1/250th sec, handheld – As is.
Had no idea on what to call this but was very happy it turned out the way i’d hoped … this is a wattle bird i see them often …they are very fast!
My impression of Golden Wattle if it hit the clubs… :O)
