Australia
An old wattle and daub cottage just outside Sedan, South Australia. The rain clouds were gathering quickly so only had time for a couple of shots before the storm set in. I was lucky to catch this one.

Flat Wattle – as the yellow flowers die off they are replaced with red seed cones. This section shows these changes at differing stages of decay and development. It took five years to find this small section of plant that shows the changes from flowering to seed production. Taken in Kings Park, Perth.
Bottle brush in full bloom against white sky.
Back from when I first started getting into photography – bit of a fluke shot really. Taken on a Canon G2 Powershot.

It’s Winter in Australia, which means the Wattle is beginning to bloom. In my area we’ll soon be surrounded by a sea of bouncing little balls of yellow…... Did you know : / - Wattle is Australia’s official floral emblem, having adorned our Coat Of Arms since 1912. / - there are around 950 different species of Wattle….. which is why I have no clue as to which one this is! / - On 1 September 1910 the Sydney Morning Herald stated: / “To many Australians the wattle stands for home, country, kindred, sunshine and love; every instinct that the heart most deeply enshrines.”........ nice :) [canon 1000D, canon scanner for texture, PS watercolour] WINNER – Wattle challenge – October 2009

According to the International Crane Foundation, Wattled Cranes stand 6 feet tall and weigh 14 pounds. The single largest concentration occurs in the Okavango Delta of Botswana a fact that we can bear testimony to as we saw a group of nearly 50 together in one evening. These critically endangered birds are suffering from a loss of their natural habitat as well as human and livestock disturbance, powerline collisions, mass aerial spraying for tsetse flies, and illegal collection of eggs, chicks and adults for food. / Featured in South Africa – Rainbow Nation and Indigenous to East & Southern Africa.
Pastel on Colourfix paper (burgundy) – 50cm x 35cm This is a ‘labour of love’ (although it wasn’t really a labour)! I finished it last weekend. It is for my mum and she is giving it to someone as a wedding present, so I have to work out a way to get it to the U.K. without it falling to pieces on the way!!!! Any bright ideas??? My latest cunning plan is to frame it under perspex. The wattle trees are blooming at the moment, although the blossom is almost passed it’s best. A sign that spring is on the way. This is one of my favourite stretches of the Goulburn River, near Seymour. Featured in Imaginative Realism – Nov 2009 / Featured in Landscape Painting – Nov 2009
I took this photo on Black Mountain in Canberra. I adjusted the hue, saturation and lightness to enhance the unreal quality of the image with the bright wattle against the fog and the other plants. I also set the aperture to “pinhole”.
Pastel on Colourfix paper (burgundy) – 50cm x 35cm On a fairly blustery afternoon a couple of weeks ago I took a stroll along the banks of the Goulburn River, in an area called The New Crossing Place, armed with a sketchbook and a camera. This is the result. I was determined to catch the bright yellow wattle before it was all blown away. (Sometimes we suffer for our art! My hair kept blowing in my face and the pages of my sketchbook kept blowing over)! Featured in Realist Paintings about Water – Sept 2009 / Featured in Lakes & Inland Waterways – Oct 2009
