This blanched sunken log reaching desperately to the sky was photographed at Myall Lakes system, between Newcastle and Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a most grey, overcast and damp summer day. Though the weather was foul, the light was great for monochrome photography so I set my exposures for a high contrast. This is an old waterlogged marsh in Co Kerry, Ireland. People still dig turf from here the old way, by hand. Dramatic views with storm clouds rolling in from the mountains.
As you can see this poor bee was absolutely waterlogged, it was lying on my driveway. Once the sun came out, he dried off and flew away.
Fall has hit Eastern Texas….
My drive to work is full of surprises. I have seen this waterlogged field several times and wondered what sort of reflection it would reveal. This particular morning I was in time for the sunrise so I thought I would see what interaction the light would have with the water. I was quite pleased I stopped. Not the best sunrise but still the colours reflected play nicely across the water. Contrasting with the few points of grass above the water level.
This blanched sunken log reaching desperately to the sky was photographed at Myall Lakes system, between Newcastle and Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a most grey, overcast and damp summer day. With such cloud cover that can easily cause a blown out sky, otherwise dull conditions, reflections and glare from the water and only a little knowledge on how to combat this for a good exposure, this shot took me a while to make. By metering from a half-dark area of water to get as close as possible to an average exposure, I then chose the f/4.5 aperture to get reasonable detail in the dark foreground as well as the good depth of field my Fuji S9600 is known for at that aperture. To combat the glare even from a cloudy sky and to exposure the detail below the water’s surface, I fitted a circular polarizing. filter. This meant a relatively slow 1/42sec shutter speed which rendered the nice detail reaching far into the background. A tripod and timer were a must! An unusual shot of a small waterfall inside a fallen log I took of one of the waterfalls on a trip today to Sungai Sendat in Malaysia (A hidden treasure not yet on the tourist maps). A new series of photos taken on a trip to Malaysia early October 2008

My entry into Artmonger’s Shittiest Work Challenge!! I kept this because it was just so freakin’ funny in person. My sister put her daughter in the splashing pool w/ a regular (not swim) diaper on. It swelled up to like 10 times its regular size.
