Beguiling and beautiful, she enchanted and inspired one of the worlds greatest ever impressionist painters. His love of nature, colour and light shines through eternally in his great works. / If ever I were offered the opportunity to select the work of a master and call it my own, it would be a Monet. The Fire Within, was a photograph taken at Longview Gardens, Pennsylvania USA. Then center of this waterlily had a unique coloring, which I digitally enhanced even more to give it this firey look. I find waterlilies some of the most graceful flowers in the living planet.
FULL SIZE IS BEST TO APPRECIATE THIS BEAUTIFUL MAGNOLIA FLOWERS Magnolia is a large genus of about 210 flowering plant species in the subclass Magnolioideae of the family Magnoliaceae. The natural range of Magnolia species is a disjunct distribution, with a main center in east and southeast Asia and a secondary center in eastern North America, Central America, the West Indies, and some species in South America. The genus is named after French botanist Pierre Magnol. Magnolia is an ancient genus. Having evolved before bees appeared, the flowers developed to encourage pollination by beetles. As a result, the carpels of Magnolia flowers are tough, to avoid damage by eating and crawling beetles. Fossilised specimens of M. acuminata have been found dating to 20 million years ago, and of plants identifiably belonging to the Magnoliaceae dating to 95 million years ago. Another primitive aspect of Magnolias is their lack of distinct sepals or petals. I was inspired by a fellow RBer to do an exercise whereby you draw or paint the same image in 5 or 6 different media. My original Waterlily/Lotus drawing in coloured pencil is one I was very pleased with, i loved the image and colours, and so I have now done a series of 6 paintings/drawings of this image. It was really great to challenge and extend myself by using different media especially those I was not familiar with using. / This one is in Pastel on Watercolour Paper. / I would love your feedback on all six of these paintings, which do you like best? Why? 2009
