Not the Chinese dictator, but our lovely cat Mao :-) Here is the photo I took for reference – I am sure you’ll agree I didn’t just do a straight copy. The background is from my imagination by the way. As this seems popular I have decided to offer cards of it for sale. I have also uploaded a better scan. As of 7th September 2009, this picture has been Featured five times, favourited sixty-one times and received 1,250 viewings … thanks everyone FEATURED BY ART APPRECIATION – 26th May 2008 FEATURED BY FINE ARTS GROUP – 4th June 2008 FEATURED BY WATERCOLOUR PAINTINGS GROUP – 28th August 2008 FEATURED BY POP ART GROUP – 14th August 2009 FEATURED BY JUST WATERCOLOURS GROUP – 7th September 2009
The intension behind this piece is to evoke a feeling of child like innocence and happiness. The use of soft pink and purple watercolours is over-layed with hand drawn doodles which merge into the IMOK universe of characters. Our motto “Let’s create a world that says I’m ok…if you are?” is contradicted with the statement “people are lost”, reflecting what is going on within the world today.
Yes, before you say it … strange! :-) As of July 2009, this painting has had 5,048 viewings and has been favourited 79 times and had 194 comments, so I guess someone out there likes it. Many thanks for your enthusiasm. To be candid though, I’ll never cease to be amazed at its reception, as I didn’t spend too much time on it and even kept it out of my portfolio for ages as I thought it was sub-standard. PLEASE NOTE – AS THE PROPORTIONS OF THIS ARE NOT IN LINE WITH THE PRINTING REQUIREMENTS, IT IS NO LONGER FOR SALE FEATURED BY SURREALISM GROUP – 28th July 2008 FEATURED BY YOU’RE ACCEPTED GROUP – 11th November 2008 FEATURED BY BRITISH PAINTERS GROUP – 26th June 2009 FEATURED BY UNIVERSAL INNOVATION GROUP – 3rd August 2009 I continued this theme and did two more paintings: /

Feel over crowded in an urban environment? How about an nice breath of fresh air? Don’t look to this planet…maybe don’t look to the future….
Unimaginatively titled, but this is one of a pair that I love for their simplicity. They are both painted in sepia watercolour, an unforgiving medium which means that there is no possibility of hesitation.
I drew this a few years back when I was first experimenting with pen and watercolours. / I’ve always liked the drawing but not known what to do with it, so I’ve kept it simple and added it to the bubble!

In my most recent series: ‘Face Navigation’ , I have used the fluidity of watercolour painting to express a personal perception of self and others. There is an awareness of the universal human condition through facial expression, and in some cases I create a progression of images, exploring the changing perception of a person by deconstructing facial recognition. As there is a shift over time in attitude or mood, there is a corresponding shift in visual interpretation. Sizes variable, average sizes 250×102 mm. I got sick of beakfaces and lizards momentarily and decided to paint some fishies – literally, goldfish…I’ve applied patches of gold leaf to their little heads. Despite being distracted by Eurovision I managed to finish it this weekend!! This one will probably be at Brunswick St Gallery in their small works show, June 6th. About 20×20cm, watercolour, chalk pastel etc on canvas. These enlargements are bigger than life size:
