  • / Yengo Sunset the wonderful photograph by Anna D’Accione, is my inspiration for “SHE”...with deeper more saturated colours, it has been turned into something entirely different….I could not improve on Anna’s photo…it stands by itself, but it did bring Ayesha to mind….my first version of “SHE”, painted several years ago, is no longer here but can be seen papering my Twitter page... Watercolour on Arches Not paper…”SHE” is part of the collection based on literature…SEE BELOW… “SHE” (who must be obeyed) by Rider Haggard is the story of a very beautiful and powerful white queen of an African tribe…her name is Ayesha, and she has made herself immortal by bathing in a pillar of fire, the source of life itself. She becomes the prototypical all-powerful female figure. She is to be both desired and feared. She is a breathtakingly beautiful creature who will not hesitate to kill any one who displeases her or stands in her way. “SHE” has been adapted to film at least nine times. ABOUT an hour before sundown we at last, to my unbounded gratitude, emerged from the great belt of marsh on to land that swelled upwards in a succession of rolling waves.... it is this quote from thechapter called “The Plain of Kor” that inspires my paintings of “SHE*“ / Midnight on Egdon Heath

  • / Scenario: read the poem..loved it….went outside to garden a bit…had a brain wave…ran in…got a brush and a pan of solid colour…a little later a finished sketch…half hour all told... Is it only the flower talking?...it sounds like a plea from a lost soul…..it could be from anyone who has gone through hardship and has come out a winner... I posted this in my journal, but I want more people to be able to read it…it has a universality that is very appealing to me…this is all about the poem and not the painting, which is a watercolour sketch... Do you know what I was, how I lived? You know / what despair is; then / winter should have meaning for you. I did not expect to survive, / earth suppressing me. I didn’t expect / to waken again, to feel / in damp earth my body / able to respond again, remembering / after so long how to open again / in the cold light / of earliest spring afraid, yes, but among you again / crying yes risk joy in the raw wind of the new world...Louise Gluck..Snowdrop

  • This is a view of a little alleyway in Unna, a small town in the near of Dortmund. / I’ve done it pleine air. In this cutting out, I’d take, I was interested in the thrilling combination of different architecture styles standing for such epochs like middle ages, Jugendstil and modernity which I found there.
