She was allowed to return to the old world every spring, representing the virtual ‘death’ of nature we experience every winter countered by its eventual rebirth every year in the spring. / Original completed in watercolor and gouache on Arches 180lb. cold-pressed cotton rag.

  • Special thanks to Jolanta for the use of her wonderful photo. Pure watercolour on Arches 140lb Not paper, W/N paints…. I try to capture just enough to show what I see and feel in the subject, and to capture the light. ...Whenever possible I aslo try to paint without a sketch, or very little at all…I find the end result much fresher and less restricting.. 1443 Views / 04 Nov 09

  • This one is half sketch, half finished piece of work. It was done quite a while ago when I was experimenting with some chalk pastels, and watercolor pencils. It’s a little sloppy, the drawing of the little girl is a wee bit wanky, but I sort of dig the colors… So there’s something… I guess… Maybe… No?

  • ©2007-2008 Aimee Stewart, Foxfires – please see my CC Terms of Use before considering using this image for any personal or commercial use http://foxfires.deviantart.com/journal/6266450/ / (Please do not repost this on Photobucket or Flickr!) / —-—-—-—-——- She always considered herself an eclectic little ermine, with a penchant for sidewalk cafes, teacakes and paper parasols… —-—-- Artist’s Notes: Fan Tan Alley is a really cool, artsy, TINY little alleyway in Victoria, B.C. – and just the sort of place my stylish ermine would visit. Click here for a short Wikipedia entry on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan_Tan_Alley / http://vancouverisland.kulshan.com/British_Columbia/Vancouver_Island/Capital_Area/Victoria/Attractions/Fan_Tan_Alley.htm And as for the ermine, or polecat – I took her picture out by an abandoned house in the middle of a wheat field! I’ll post a real picture of her soon. :D

  • When I discovered this roseform begonia with HUGE 7-inch blooms in a California nursery, I just HAD to copy it with brush and watercolor. What fun! / 9”x 12-1/2” watercolor on Arches 140 cold press, painted with Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors. ©Pat Yager 2008 All rights reserved.

  • Watercolor painting. 140lb Montval Paper. / This painting was done with a lot of wet on wet to start. I lifted color and actually sanded with a moist but almost dry paper towel. I used a dental tool to remove specks bringing out the impression of ocean spray. I took several photos of these three girls at the beach in Carmel. It was the first time that I really had fun with my telephoto lens. They had no idea that I was there so I was able to capture the fun that they were having being at the beach. My intent was in taking photos of my niece and nephew, also great captures, but this was a fun photo to do as a painting.

  • Portrait of a little girl on a swing with her cabage patch doll. This little girl lived across the street from me at the time I did this piece..She is about four years old, watercolor pencil and water color on coquile paper . I add water as I go with the pencils but don’t get it too wet..I spray it lightly when finished and use a blow dryer / I used Coquille paper 3ply…Cold press it has a stiple surface and is predictable meaning no surprises. It helps me achieve the effect I want and is very durable. It’ plays a big part in my images. I like to get as much depth as possible in my work…I achieve this with light and contrast in my color..People also identify my work wilth the color that I use..It has kind of becomes a trade mark . I also strive to have a unique quality in my art…. Something all of my own. / This piece hangs in a Doctors Office in Sick Kids Hospital…It was a lot of fun to do…She was having such a great time on that swing I had to capture it on paper. I like to capture movement in my work and a feeling of part of my subject…Who they are…a part of their personality…Something you can take away with you after viewing such as a feeling of happiness..You can tell she loves her doll very much because it;s on the swing with her…I use props a lot in my art work of children..This way when the child sees the art work she can identify with it by seeing their doll or teddy….My work appeals to various kinds of people especially children or places children will be. /

  • St. Mark’s Basilica, the most famous church in Venice, is reflected in a watery St. Mark’s Square. An opulent example of Byzantine architecture and gilded mosaics, Paul Jackson’s painting captures the true beauty of this 11th century Italian symbol of wealth and power. This watercolor is one of a series of architectural works by the artist of churches, monuments and museums across Europe and the United States.

  • Like a good Jazz theme, this Paul Jackson watercolor, “Hide and Seek” expresses a curvaceous rhythm and has a knock out impact. Coupled with the beautiful hot and cool color combination, this painting, one of a series of art glass works by the artist, will define any space it’s in. “Hide and Seek” is Paul’s favorite of all glass paintings he’s done. It has a color scheme that balances perfectly.

May we make wise choices in how and what we harvest, / may earth’s weather turn kinder, / may there be enough food for all creatures, / may the diminishing light in our daytime skies / be met by an increasing compassion and tolerance / in our hearts.”....Kathleen Jenks, Autumn Lore Watercolour on Arches Not Paper FEATURED IN IMAGEWRITING

watercolors – information provided by wikipedia:

Watercolor (US) or Watercolour (UK) (and "aquarelle" in French) is a painting method. A watercolor is the medium or the resulting artwork, in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water soluble vehicle. The traditional and most common support for watercolor paintings is paper; other supports include papyrus, bark papers, plastics, vellum or leather, fabric, wood, and canvas. In East Asia, watercolor painting with inks is referred to as brush painting or scroll painting. In Chinese and Japanese painting it has been the dominant medium, often in monochrome black or browns. India, Ethiopia and other countries also have long traditions. Fingerpainting with watercolor paints originated in China.
