Great Crested Grebe nesting at the University of York. / Girlies had taken me Grebe hunting today and I was delighted to find a second nest, this one quite close to the edge of the lake and reasonably accessible through a bramble patch. Mrs Grebe saw & heard me approach but for once I had the camera ready and so was fast enough to get this view of her crest fully raised as she turned her head towards me. Edwardian ladies thought this wonderful crest should decorate their hats, rather than the birds’ heads.
