  • Late in the afternoon the walls of Emma Gorge were a glowing orange reflecting in the creek.

  • The colours of the sunset here are tremendous. It is a pleasure to watch the changing colours long after the sun sets, the lights come on and all the other sunset watchers leave (before the best bit!!!). This is the second night we spent in Derby. I have also uploaded the shot from the first night but can’t decide which I prefer. The colours were different on the two nights due to fire in the area.

  • From Trillium Lake, quickly passing clouds briefly expose the summit of Mt. Hood, making the pinnacle all the more dramatic.

  • West Island, Cocos (keeling) Islands When the tide comes in, an awesome white beach disappears (see Infinity) and is replaced by the prettiest aqua water…rolling, rolling, rolling !! The water is only knee deep, but perfect for floating in. We spotted lots of little reef sharks around here – what a magic place they call home. • Description…well its kinds obvious, its a Cod in a Cave ;-) Ok, its a Black Cod (Epinephelus daemelii) sorrounded by Eastern Pomfrets (Schuettea scalaripinnis) at Fish Rock Cave (http://www.southwestrocksdive.com.au/) off the Northern NSW Coast, Australia (http://tinyurl.com/a99zm4) Black Cod are classed as a “Vulnerable” species, they are not yet and hopefully will never be endangered. Follow the 2 links above and from one you will see a drawing of Fish Rock Cave. This dive site is one of the must-do dives not just of Australia but of the world! The classic Fish Rock photograph is similar to this one but with Grey Nurse Sharks so it was great to get this shot, particularly as the Black Cod are relatively shy and tend to run and hide when divers approach. This shot also features in one of my calendar’s

  • Sort of a bittersweet moment, apparently the West Coast Demo team will no longer perform at airshows with the F-15. To mark the “retirement” this F-15 was hosed down by two firetrucks as it returned from it’s last tactical flight demo. Nikon D300, Sigma 50-500mm.

  • Photo taken at a marsh I love to frequent in Quinte West, Ontario, Canada. This male mute swan was putting on a wonderful display for his female partner during mating season. As he normally just floats about the marsh, I was thrilled to capture this! Canon Rebel EOS XTi with 70-200mm f/4 L IS lens. • Canon 50D | ISO 100 | f11 | 1/2 | 20mm About As predicted, my foggy landscape addiction continues. A bit of a story to this one. Mel S had a day off and I mentioned to her about this planned idea of mine. Keen for someone to come along to suss this place out, we agreed to meet just before the turnoff to the lake. I headed down the road towards the lake and missed the turn off, which was only about 1.5ks from the highway. My phone was dying and the reception was terrible. Oh by chance we passed each other and then headed back to find the road. Lost again and me with only a few litres of fuel left, we headed back to the fuel station. There we checked a map, found the road, found a way in and got in just as these colours were unfolding. An amazing place to visit, fog was rolling over the water and trees, and through the mountains. Processing A little bit of work on this one, but not much. A quick crop to straighten the horizon. Matt’s Grad Filter to pop out the sky nicely. Punch Preset in LR2, followed by some curves and Camera Calibration set to Landscape. Into PS for some soft light. Some Brightness in LR2 and a little negative Clarity to counter some over zealous amounts. And Sharpen Landscapes preset in LR2.

  • Two deckchairs await their first customers of the day, offering a view over Brighton’s West Pier.

  • This small Alpine Pool of water reflects the Summer Clouds on its Surface. / I took this photo in the Summer of 08 during the harsh mid day light. I find it challenging to take photo’s at this time of day. / this spot is high up on a mountain, located on British Columbia’s North Coast Area. / west coast of Canada / almost nobody has ever visited this spot, it is very unique and unspoiled by mankind’s presence. / Basically pristine Canadian Wilderness / The Water is Red from Tanin’s that occur in this region. / this photo is a 3 shot HDR and I probably went over board with the Saturation but was just trying to get the Lupin Flowers Brighter. / In retrospect it would be nice to get up there and photograph that spot again with a ND Grad Filter instead of doing HDR. / I much prefer the Filter over the HDR effect.

  • A cot in a childrens ward of an abandoned Lunatic Asylum :-( History / West Park Asylum (or West Park Hospital) was a large psychiatric hospital in Epsom, Surrey. The hospital was designed by William C. Clifford-Smith (architect to the London County Council), who was also involved in the design of nearby St Ebba’s Hospital. The hospital had been in planning since 1906, and by 1917 it was largely complete; however, the outbreak of war postponed opening until 1923. / When complete the hospital could cater for around 2,000 patients of mixed class, and hence the site had extensive boiler houses and plant rooms, a large laundry and a substantial water tower. There were enormous kitchens located behind the canteen, and in turn this was behind the main hall/ballroom. However, the main hall suffered an arson attack on September 30th 2003 and is now a burnt out shell. The asylum also boasted its own railway but this was removed in 1950, and no trace remains except around the central engineering block. The main stores and sewing rooms were also located here, but other services, such as the mortuary and chapel, were located by the entrance road, along with two lodges for the matrons and a large manor for the superintendent. / The hospital was slowly run down from the mid 1990s, and by 2003 most of the hospital was closed and derelict. A few outer ward buildings and villas remain open today and are still used for psychiatric treatment. As the hospital is largely derelict, it is of increasing interest to urban explorers who visit for the sheer size of the hospital, and also for many hospital items still in situ, such as beds, drugs, kitchen equipment and personal items. A padded cell is also of interest to explorers.
