With a tongue (mine, if you are asking) firmly in my cheek, I offer you this helpful little checklist, and wish you good health! / . / Inspired by a comment from sarah moore a few weeks ago, which she’s may well have forgotten by now(!)

Did I mention to you that I’ve only just started a watchlist of my own – yes all this time on RB and no watchlist. Goodness knows how many images I’ve missed because I wasn’t watching… I have now amended this for several reasons. 1. Last week, I saw the most blilliantest (yes, that’s a word – it means more brilliant than even brilliant) image of a building in Rome. I should have favourited it, I know. I asked several RB’ers in the forum to help me look for it, to no avail. I should have favourited it, and I should have added that artist to a watchlist – but I didn’t. If you know this image, can you find it for me? 2. I’m going to be really busy in the life I lead outside RB, incredible, I know. Obviously an oversight on my part, and I don’t want to miss out on all the fun and games that will go on here while I’m busy. The Real Life will take me away from the bubble until 24th December. I’ll still add the odd image and have a look, but it won’t be with the same level of obsession I have for RB at the moment. I think you all know what I mean…everyone here has the same disease… the withdrawal symptons are showing already, even as I type… 3. I’ve noticed there is a new soapie that’s just started, and if you haven’t read it – You Must – it’s laugh out loud stuff, complete with links to images so that people like me can match the pictures in our head to those in real life. Have you added it to your watchlist? If not, I’ll provide you with links - / It’s written by Andrew Walker and you’ll find the complete set of Soap Bubble episodes here . So, as Molly Meldrum would say, do yourselves a favour and go check it out – you won’t be sorry. In fact, add Andrew to your watchlist so you don’t miss out on the epsidoes – we all need lightness and frivolity in our lives, and the Soap Bubble that in bucketloads! 4. I had no idea just how much fun a watchlist would be, I’m sure I’ll need to add more to my watchlist, but which ones to choose…Hmmm.

we all know we love RB, if we didnt we wouldnt be here / we all know we LOVE comments and views on our work / but…when people start having to apologize for not returning comments, exactly what does it mean? has RB gotten so big with so much work added that we cant keep up? or does it mean..the only reason we give a comment is because something is expected in return? i do ask the members of the Shots in the Fog group, instead of worrying about telling me thanks for the comments..find another person in the group and give THEM a comment! Pass It On! i know they appreciate the comments, i dont need them to tell me thanks to confirm it. seeing them passing it on..is a “thanks” enough for me / i know my activity monitor moves 2pages per day, due to my favs on my watchlist adding new works, journals, and writings. / i know for the past 3wks its taken a few hours to just to try to ketchup!! when i could be here. / i comment on a person’s work because that work MOVED Me to comment, not because i expect someone to comment back. yes the return comments are appreciated, but NOT expected. / I add to my watchlist because i LIKE the person’s work!! not because i expect them to add me to their watchlist. / it really bothers me some that are complaining about others being rude, or the threat of..ill remove you if you dont comment back. what is that all about???? / yes we are here to support each other and get our work out. but you must give Everyone the benefit of the doubt, they might not be able to make it onto the site, they are busy with their work as well, who knows, but it shouldnt matter. / so before you comment on a persons’s work..think about what You are expecting from it. are you commenting because the work moved you to comment? or are you expecting something in return? i want EVERYONE to know, who ever has commented and added me to their watchlist, i am very honored my work has moved you enough to do that, i appreciate every comment made. and wish like hell i could return EVERY one of them. / those who have removed me, well im sorry you felt that way, that i didnt meet your “expectations”. crazy me, thought meeting anyone’s expectations would be to upload work that is pleasurable to view, and who knows..buy? so before you go chastising others because they might not be as active as you’re able to be on the site. think about why they arent responding, or maybe they are passing it on? so lets rethink the reason we comment. let it be because work moved you and expect nothing in return. dont let it turn out to be the if you dont comment on every shot, i wont comment. thats how we end up turning into other sites we all have left and RB isnt like ANY other site on the internet, that is what makes it so Awesome so thanks to everyone who has kept me on their watchlist / thanks for all the support and comments / i am honored to call You friends! and i DO plan on catching up!

WRITTEN AUG 08 - Hi everyone, I am by no means an expert, but I do have some great, simple tips and hints that can help get you noticed and on your way to selling your shirts. These may have been covered on the forums, but I wanted to streamline it a bit and put it all in one tight package. First, I recommend that you get familiar with copying images and links on Redbubble.com by reading the information on the forums to get a basic idea of it all. Take note of these ideas, and if you have any success since reading this article, drop the thumbnail of your of your sold shirt here with an embedded link to that shirt so we can congratulate you! —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— So here we go, starting with the most obvious thing first - 1. ONLY POST THE BEST DESIGNS IN YOUR PROFILE / I can’t stress this enough, if your design is not as good as it could be, it will bring down your entire portfolio – so go through your portfolio and be harsh in culling anything that doesn’t receive much attention or look as good as the rest. It is much better to have 5 amazing pieces than 30 half decent ones! 2.SHOWING A HIGHER QUALITY PREVIEW IN THE SIDE BAR / You may be aware that you can show a larger preview of your work in the right hand side bar, but this can often be the low quality image that we copy directly off the website. I would recommend for those tech-savvy people, to use a high quality preview file, showing the whole image or using only a zoomed in section of your image. This will give your customers a much better understanding of the quality they will get from the lines/detail of your work. You will notice on most of my works, like this / one, I have included a higher quality preview image in the right hand side bar, in this case it even has a custom watermark – ooh snazzy! There is a simple way to do this – first, after you have uploaded your shirt, go back into the program you used to make the design. Open that design and make it smaller – Width 500px and save it as a jpg. You can make it much larger than this, but I find it to be the best size. Then, upload the jpg to a website like Flickr, Facebook, Myspace or anywhere you can upload a picture. Then copy the link for where that picture is saved – _this can usually be done by right clicking on the image, going to Properties and copying the entire Address (URL). Once you have that link copied, Edit your recently uploaded shirt, and in the description box, after your words, put in an exclamation mark , followed by the link, http://example.com/image.jpg and then follow that with another exclamation point. Redbubble.com uses the exclamation marks as brackets to display images, much like the inverted commas are used to display someone speaking. 3. USING LINKED THUMBNAILS AROUND REDBUBBLE / Example: / Linked Thumbnails are a visual tease, advertising your work. Displayed in the right place they can be very effective. I would recommend going that one step further and displaying your best designs on your home page, shirt previews and in the forums (when appropriate). This is a great example of using linked thumbnails to display your other work – Here , and if you click through to his home page you will see rudeboyskunk has displayed his best work again, in linked thumbnail form. It is actually quite simple to display linked thumbnails around your site. First, go to your home page (by clicking on your name at the top right of the page). In the Clothing section, click on the View All Clothing link. This will display all your clothing works in thumbnail format. For this example (I’m using Internet Explorer), right click on the thumbnail you want to use. Go to Properties and copy the full Address (URL). It is best to open up Notepad, or Microsoft Word and paste the link into there. / Then, under the thumbnail you just clicked on, right click on the Name of the thumbnail, go to Properties and copy the full Address (URL). Paste this under the thumbnail link in Notepad or Microsoft Word. You should have something like this - / http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/clothing/bodycolor:black/cropped/ / size:small/style:mens/view:main/151516 EXAMPLE SHIRT.jpg (IMAGE LINK) http://www.redbubble.com/people/diesellaws/clothing/1572613 EXAMPLE SHIRT (PAGE LINK) Now all you need is to put them together (the end result will look something like this): !IMAGE LINK!:PAGE LINK Then next thing to do is copy that whole lot of text and paste it into your profile section, description, emails and forums. Do the same thing for every thumbnail you want to display. It may be a bit time consuming, but it looks professional and if and you are willing to put in the effort, it will pay off. 4. REPLYING TO COMMENTS/LEAVING COMMENTS/THANKING PEOPLE / No matter how many things are taking up your time in this busy world, there is never an excuse for not replying to, commenting on and Watchlist-ing another artist. This simple (but often forgotten) gesture will start discussions, and more often than not, increase the views of your work. Every now and then, I head to the Clothing page and view the recent works – then I pick out a few I like and comment them, and in most cases, favourite them. If their portfolio is really good, I will even add the artist to my Watchlist. When someone leaves a comment on your work, make a point to reply back to them straight away, thanking them for their comment. They have taken the time to go through the mass of submissions, to end up on your work and gone even further to leave you a comment! You should always thank them for that! Also, if you like an artist, send them a Bubblemail. It takes two seconds to do and it is great for getting tips and building a friendship. When I first started on RB I was really impressed with thickblackoutline , so, I sent her a Bubblemail (and added her to my Watchlist. It wasn’t long before I received some very useful tips and inspiration, and we are now in the process of co-hosting a group. If an artist inspires you, or you have a question, do not be afraid to ask! You never know what kind of tips they will pass on and, they may even like your work! 5. PROMOTING ON OTHER WEBSITES / I’m sure you are all aware of how advertising on other websites can increase sales. But most of you aren’t aware that the best advertising is right in front of you! Most people have a Facebook, Myspace and or Bebo etc. On Facebook, you can post pictures of your artwork in your Photos section – and put a link to the shirt in the description! This will get sent to all your friends on their homepage letting them know that you have just uploaded a new picture – think of how many friends may be interested to know you have just uploaded a Darth Vader Rocks” T-shirt!. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— I really hope these tips help you and I would love to know how you went since implementing some of these hints. If you like, you can send me a Bubblemail! Good luck, Diesel Laws —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / LINK TO THIS PAGE – http://www.redbubble.com/people/diesellaws/journal/1574934-how-to-sell-shirts-hints-and-tips / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-

I am becoming aware as the days go by that I am not getting notification of new works by some people on my watchlist. As I am discovering who, I am removing them from my watchlist and then re adding. So I am sorry to those and hopefully that will solve the problem, and I shall be notified in future.

How to create a ‘Most Popular Viewed’ link on your front page..I was recently asked by Kenart, how did I create the link on my front page that displayed the most popular viewed images that I have in my portfolio. I thought I would share how I created this just incase anyone else would like to know…. / Here are the steps: / 1. I have used the ‘tag’ system which are attached to each image that is loaded into RB. I made up a special tag, in this case ‘tp5’ (can be any name but must be unique and not used anywhere else on your site) / 2. Now go through all your images, any image that has over ‘100 views’ click on the ‘edit’ link and add ‘tp5’ into the tag field. (you can use any number 50, 300, etc just what you feel is a lot of views to justify the image as being popular….) / 3. Click the ‘Save Changes’ button (bottom of page) / 4. Now go into your ‘view your public profile’ mode (mybubble >> overview >> view your public profile – from the list of links at the top right hand-side of the page) / 5. Next, click on the ‘Art’ tab. / 6. You notice on the left hand side of the page a list of ‘Related tags:’ The ‘tp5’ tag may or may not be shown here…. (not a problem if it is not) / 7. Click on the ‘tp5’ or any any of the tags. / 8. When the new page is displayed… go to the ‘Address’ field at the very top of the page, click in the field and highlight the whole address and copy it. It will look like this: (your username will be where ‘gerrymac’ is ) http://www.redbubble.com/people/gerrymac/art/everything/tags/tp5 / 9. Next go back to ‘MyBubble’ / 10. Click on ‘edit my profile’ / 11. Scroll down to where the ‘about you’ box is put your cursor in front of the very first word and press ‘enter/return’ a couple of times. / 12. Now type in the following: Short-cut to the following:- “Most popular viewed” :http://www.redbubble.com/people/gerrymac/art/everything/tags/tp5 / Note: remove the space between viewed and the colon – if you don’t have the tag ‘tp5’ shown at the end of the line change it now to ‘tp5’ / 13. Next click the ‘Save Changes’ button. / 14. Now goto your ‘View Public Profile’ page and click on the link…. / 15. So all you have to do now is monitor your images from time to time and when an image has reached your defined number of views i.e 100 use the ‘edit’ link and just add the ‘tp5’ tag – ‘save changes’ and your image will automatically be added to your most popular viewed! / Note: I have noticed that not all of my tags are displayed in the ‘Related Tags’ list when I am viewing my images in the ‘Art’ area. If I want to create a link for a tag that is not shown…. Use the URL above and just substitute the last word with the name of your tag. (obviously make sure it also is your username and not gerrymac!) / Sorry if this sounds a bit long winded but once you have done a couple you will see that it is quite straight forward and you can easily put your tag works right on the fron

Is anyone else having problems loading images. Appears mine load on to my home page but don’t appear anywhere else, especially in your watchlists. I have just tried to upload two more and they sit there doing nothing. I understand from comments from others that many have had to reload a number of times. If your not getting comments or views this could also be a problem for you.

Is it my imagination or has everybody gone on holiday? Since the big changes, I’m finding very few new works from my watchlist friends are being posted and I’m getting very few comments on mine. I’ve got about 5 pages of people on my watchlist and I’m sure they’re still alive so what gives? Could it be that everyone hates the new layout as much as I do and finds it so irritating that, like me, they can’t face scrolling and clicking to find comments or to find out what’s happening in their groups? What’s happened and does RB know/care?

This June I will have been a member of the RedBubble community for one year. So I’ve started to celebrate early. My watchlist is enormous, and I don’t always get to comment on every piece of work. In mid-August of last year I joined RedBubble. I naively assumed two things: 1. My photography was brilliant and salable. / 2. The buying public was sitting at computer screens, credit cards in hand, waiting to purchase my work. LOL. Seriously? Yes. In addition, I foolishly believed that: 1. It didn’t matter if anyone on RedBubble “Watched” me, since the world was watching. / 2. The act of adding someone to a Watchlist was somehow stalkerish. I avoided it as long as I could, until I could no longer recall all the people whose work fascinated me and didn’t know when they posted new things. So I ASKED THEIR PERMISSION to watch them. A couple of people started “watching” me and I fled. I didn’t log on for nearly a week. Being “watched” freaked me out. Eventually things became clearer, as they do, so I “watched” people and yearned to be Watched. At that point, I noticed a behavior in other new-to-the-Bubble people and copied it for myself (I STOPPED doing this in mid-January): Watchlist Wooing. Watchlist Wooing was really an effort to find people who might watch us, who might be entranced by our work and who might give us much-needed feedback. Other people did it…so I tried it to. I visited Bubblers whose work I liked and who seemed receptive to my comments. Day after day…a little bit of a pest, I was. But some people did add me to their lists. A few of them still have me there, I think. ((((gratefulhugs)))) to them!!!! Then more people joined and I saw work that was soooooo far beyond mine I realized I needed to do other art here, not just scans of my old photography from the 1980’s. I bought a camera. I tried new stuff. / Meh. / Underwhelming. Then I downloaded free digital art software and tried to make art that way. / Eventually, I joined Groups! More people added me to their lists, I added them….people left RedBubble, people joined…. we had revolving door Watchlists….. It was good. / Good CHANGES, though. Today’s good isn’t the same as tomorrow’s good. As RedBubble has grown and as Groups have developed roles that weren’t obvious a year ago (at least not to me) people who were primarily focused on their own art have gone on to host/support groups. People have developed multiple identities. Some have gone on to other sites. And that’s when I noticed things changing again…..even for me. Part Two tomorrow. I hope. BTW: Here’s the only image remaining from my original upload. I love it beyond sense; if I didn’t already own it, I’d buy it. No one ever has, but that’s OK. I’m just happy it exists.
