One of the more beautiful sunsets I have witnessed over Mt. Rainier and all reflected in the still waters of Upper LAke Tipsoo

One must suffer for your art correct? Well this might fit, I headed out this cold December dawn a year ago with temps at -5 and windchill at -30. A bit chilly and I learned that if you take a glove and grab a metal tripod leg your hand will stick at least for a few moments. I hope the image was worth it! The frozen surface of Mud Lake just after dawn one cold winter morning. The long shadows of the tree stumps making eerie lines across the ice and skiff of snow on top.

A gnarled stump washed up on the beach as a storm drives the normally calm waters ashore at Neptune Beach in Northern Washington.
-
A major early snow storm blanketed the Cascade Mountains. A small lake nearly froze over by winter cold offers a bit of a reflection as Mt. Rainier looms in the background capped by a lenticular cloud cap. A pristine view one can linger on if you can stand the cold.

An evening where I headed to the mountains for a walk hoping to catch some lightning and instead was blessed with a spectacular display of color from the setting sun. A lone stump left exposed by the receding waters of Rimrock Lake caught my attention. Not a lot of light left but a lot of color for sure.

Morning fog lies rises from the valley floor covering nearly, a couple of ridges dotted by golden larch trees emerge.

Fall color explodes in the meadows around Mt. Rainier. A great day this was hiking with my 12 year old daughter.

A magnificent sky erupting over Mt. Rainier and the still waters of a small alpine tarn of the crest trail.

The break in the rainy day at sunset coupled with high tide being driven by the wind created some surging waves for me to use in the foreground and this gnarled limb or stump washed ahore at the right time for me to add it to the composition. Taken at Neptune Beach here in the great state of Washington.

A funny thing happened on the way to Mt. Rainier well before sunrise. I noticed the morning mist rising over Clear Lake and the cirrus clouds fanning out above them and decided that a glorious sunrise on the lake was worth more than a maybe on the mountain. I fumbled my way in the dark via flashlight to the lakes edge and had time to search for composition before the heavens lit up. Not a bad way to start a day at all.

A pastel sunset over Mt. Rainier with a lenticular cap on top and the fog rising out of the valley below. All reflected in a small alpine lake near the crest of the Cascade Mountains

As the water passes by me so does the Autumn season. By the time I am able to return to this spot the colors will have mostly been blown unto the winds. Seasons pass so quickly, much as our lives if we live for today and not for eternity.

The flow of the tides at Ruby Beach on the Olympic Peninsula. I am still fascinated by the different movements and looks from one spot over time just given the ebb and flow of the waves and water, first coming on one then the other

Yakima Peak illuminated by dawns first light as a morning mist rises off the Lake Tipsoo

A gnarled stump slowly having its roots exposed by the waters of Rimrock Lake. Some day it will be swept away by the rising water. (I was particularly drawn to this scene by the way the stumps shape was mirrored by the distant peak across the lake)
-
First light on Mt. Rainier as the wildflowers dot an alpine meadow in the foreground.
-
A colorful sunset as the tides came in near LArrabee State PArk looking out toward the San Juan Islands of Washington
-
A pastel sunrise on a bitterly cold February morning had frost clinging to the reeds along this Central Washington lake as a cold mist arose with the sun.
-
A bitterly cold morning on the surface of Mud lake. The rising sun offered little warmth but it did outline the frost on the cat tails and reeds.

Wasn’t sure about this one but it got rave reviews over at NAture Photographers forum so here ya go. IT may not be everyones cup of tea. A stand of tall fir trees in the Cascade Mountains near Snoqualmie Pass nearly veiled in white clouds and snow of a spring storm.
