This is another shot that I took on the 5th of May as part of the 24 hours of flickr. It is the shot of Australias own (or better my own, since it is in my backyard) Hills Hoist that was prominently featured at the 200 Olympics Opening Ceremony. / And now I have to learn that it was not even an Australian Invention: Taken from Wikipedia: / “The Hills Hoist is an Australian version of the rotary clothes line, the distinguishing feature of which is a crown and pinion winding mechanism invented by Adelaide based Lance Hill in 1945. This allows this clothesline to be lowered and raised. The rotary clothes line itself had been invented as early as 1855, diagrams of which were published in Scientific American that year. This style of clothes line was popularised in Australia by Lance Hill and is a common sight in Australian and New Zealand backyards. It is considered one of Australia’s most recognisable icons, and is used frequently by artists as a metaphor for suburbia in Australia. This is my youngest daughter’s toy rabbit, “Spike”. She won’t go to sleep without him and she always sucks her thumb while stroking his silky washing instructions label with her forefinger. She wore the original label away and we had to sew another one on! Needless to say Spike gets very smelly and needs washing regularly!

Continuing along the same theme as “Out To Dry”, this poor teddy belongs to our Labrador, Henry. He greets us with this smelly thing in his mouse whenever we come home, often giving a muffled bark at people passing by in the street like a really fierce guard dog (not!). Today my wife decided it had got smelly enough and in the washing machine it went! I captured it’s pleading look of “Save me!” before she mercilessly pressed the Start button!

Sailing boat that ran aground at Carpenters Rocks, Limestone Coast, South East South Australia. Went on a group photoshoot last night, seven of us out in the weather….. This boat is only visible like this on extremely low tides just East of the lighthouse at Carpenters. Canon 400D, 18 -55 lens, polarising filter, HDR 3 shot merge in Photomatix.

A re visit today to the shipwrecked sailing vessel, “Pisces Star” that came aground over ten years ago near the Lighthouse at Carpenters Rocks, Limestone Coast, South Australia. Extremely low tide today and great sky’s allowed for some panorama sets with an old tripod sitting in salt water…. Canon 400D – 18-55 with CIR Polarising lens. 5 shot set stitched in Photoshop CS3.
