This child watched through a broken window as we worked inside. It’s times like this when the natural, uncontrived symbolism of circumstance just presents itself to you and all you have to do is click. There was not pretence, no staging, no crap. Just reality. It still engages me now. Look at his eyes. What is he thinking? He’s aching. He is full on aching. How can I help them more, how can I help them more, how can I help them more… Please give if you can or pass it on to someone else. That’s giving too. All proceeds to charity. RedBubble is powered by you! The members of RB are the heart and soul of the creative journey that is RedBubble. You nurture, encourage, entertain, challenge, collaborate and share with each other. The generosity of spirit that I’ve seen on RedBubble is awesome. In title I am the RedBubble bus driver but the people shouting instructions are the members of RedBubble. This is your site and your community. We listen and very much see ourselves as working for you. It’s sometimes a little hard to make sense of all the feedback (and to move as fast as we’d like) but we do listen and act of the feedback. One of the things that we’d like to do over the next few months is get more people involved in RedBubble. We want to hand over the keys. There are over 500 people hosting groups or forums on RedBubble, and we’ve been racking our brains about other ways to get people involved. Today we’re kicking off a ‘welcomer’ role. The idea of this role is that a few folks from the community will put their hand up to help new bubblers find their feet (they’ll keep an eye out for recent members and monitor the welcome forum). And I’d like to welcome and thank the first two welcomers: Colin Tobin and Imogene Munday: But I’m sure there’s about a million other ways to get involved in RedBubble that we haven’t thought of. So today I’m asking a few questions: 1. What roles do you think we should create on RedBubble? / 2. Would you like to nominate to do something? Or is there someone you would like to nominate for a role? You can either respond below or BubbleMail me directly here. Cheers, Peter

Cog sincerely wants to believe that a greater being cares about her personally
by IncognitaUS$4.28–US$114.00
Studly frequently comments (to himself, naturally) that this simply reflects Cog’s belief that she IS the centre of the universe. He can’t imagine why she would need an imaginary friend when she has him.

Now I discovered a rather useful tip for up-sizing photos for poster printing. Up until a few months ago any photo scaling I did was left to be resampled by PS. This isn’t a good idea generally. Now when providing images for use on RB they ask for BIG files so I have been having to upscale some of my shots. Some of the seasoned pros may do this the way I will describe, others may not. I have found that doing it this way upscales your images massively without any obvious loss in quality. (Thats not to say that there is not any though) Open your image to be upscaled and open the Image size Dialog box from the Image menu in PS. Select “Percentage” in the document sizes drop down menus and enter the amount you wish to upscale – I usually use 200% Then enter 360 pixels/inch as your resolution. Check the RESAMPLE box and select the BICUBIC SHARPER option (Note this is recommended for down-sampling your images in PS – but just trust me) Click ok and your image is resampled. Take a good look at 100% zoom and be amazed at the quality. It really doesn’t lose much in the resampling. Let me know what you think people :D

This is one of the flowers from my show and poems for her. What did you want as you walked with me as I held your hand in mine? / What did you think that I would be as I held your hand in mine? / What did you hope for as we strolled along walking hand in hand? / What was this special look that you gave me as you start to smile? / What was that little sparkle in your eyes as you said that you were mine? / What was it that you wanted from me the first time that we met? / You never say a word about what you did expect. / What was it that you whispered in my ear last night? / As I pushed deeply in your body as you held me very tight! / What were those little words that came so fast so swift as we made love last night? / Like little smiles and special kisses and just a soft kind touch. / What was it that you expected from me as you held my hand? / I think you wanted someone there who understood your dreams. / Someone who would take the time to hold you close and dear. / Someone to say your everything that I’ll ever need. / And even when we’ve had a fight you’ll still be all I need. / I think you wanted someone to love and be there for all time. / I think you wanted someone who would stand there by your side. / I think you wanted this man to say all the things that make you smile. / And what was that that you said to me as we made love last night? / After all these years we’ve been together and through all the little storms. / I smile to think you can say these words after all these years. / Well I can say them very clear I feel them in my heart I’ll repeat exactly what you said as you held me close last night. / You whispered in my ear my wife these words I hold so dear….. / “My love for you will never stop until my dying days”. / What was it that you wanted as you held my hand that first day? / It looks to me that all you wanted….............. was me.

Ideally you will be… / prepared to give it a go and try something different or even a bit unflattering based in Melbourne, Australia look completely normal or utterly unusual or anything in between accept red wine, love and photos as currency I take my responsibility as a photographer seriously. Prior to a shoot I will talk to you about my ideas, what I want you to do, how I want you and the whole image to look and discuss different options. I aim to create an art piece that best utilizes your particular look and attitude whatever that may be. If you don’t look like a typical model, brilliant. I do not shoot underage models without a parent in attendance and encourage all models to bring a chaperon or friend to shoots. I always encourage models to leave their mobile phones switched on, take regular breaks, tell someone where we will be shooting and when they can be expected home. I provide examples of my work, and models I have worked with previously will happily attest to my not being a scam artist or psycho. If you’d like to give it a go and have a bit of fun, drop me a email to mail@joobrien.com.au EDIT>> June 2008… Yes, this post was made last year but I am still keen to hear from prospective models :)

The weekend was looking pretty bad (photography wise) until my neigbour introduced me to Ted. I fell in love immediately – my friends know I’m a sucker for a puppy or kitten. Ted is a 10 week old cross Pug Cavalier.
