Acrylic and gold spray paint on canvas. / I apologize for the photo, it doesn’t really do the painting justice, the only way to view it is in person…I meant to scan it in, but I have since sold it, so this is all I have. This one was inspired by looking into the night sky whilst camping. It started off as a simple sketch and ended up like this. Image copyright © 2008, Lila Alias. My origami calendar A sailboat folded out of a 6×10mm piece of paper rowing along the lifeline in my palm. Wow I didn’t realize my hand had all these lines :P. I didn’t turn this into a black and white this time because I managed to get a cool light on my hand to make it more waterlike. The flow of life is parrallel to a journey off the land. It begins smooth, then the waves of adulthood brings high tides which we must overcome, However at the end of the ride, everything is smooth again. Ironically the lifeline in my palm depicts this flow; it begins smooth, then there is a big split and begin to ruffle, but towards the end it comes back together again. This concept was originally generated in May 2008, but I bought a tripod later on and re-shot this on September 2, 2009 For a better idea of scale: / / / This work has been featured in: / Two Word Challenge / / / Also available at Zazzle / / / / Works by Category / / Origami / Drawings,Paintings and Graphics / Abstract Photography / Guessing Games Flowers, Trees and Plants / Water and Waterscapes / Scenery/Skyscapes / Light, Shadow, and Reflections / Still Life Living Creatures / Human Portrait Japanfluence / Canada / Europe More sample origami: / / / / / / / / / ‘Serenity’, the Firefly spacecraft (My own design) / / / / / / / / / / /

Time heals all wounds. Time flies when you’re having fun. Time stands still. Time waits for no one. If I could turn back the hands of Time. Frozen in Time. Timeless…. you get the idea. Well, I wanted to create a series that perhaps captured the essence of these things, in relation to human emotion. And so my Time series was born. I know in my heart what each of them means, but I did not name them anything specific, so that the viewer could make up their own mind as to the meaning of each piece. I think that is something unique to every individual. So…my heartfelt thanks for continuing to watch and support my artistic endeavors. It feeds the fire that burns and inspires. / Aimee

You will have to take my word for it but this is an image of a female Rufous Hummingbird, Selasphorus rufus, flying in reverse. Hummingbirds are the only birds that can actually fly backwards. Image captured at Vaughn Bay, Washington. /

We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to make it Khumjung on our way back down ‘the mountain’ as the weather was coming in and we were in ‘sleeping bag’ mode. Luckily, the stop offered more than a sighting of the Yeti skull and street lights!! It was already late in the afternoon and the snow had just begun to fall consistently- this lady had also obviously decided it was time to head back indoors.
In Hinduism, sadhu is a common term for a mystic,an ascetic, practitioner of yoga (yogi) and/or wandering monks. The sadhu is solely dedicated to achieving the fourth and final Hindu goal of life, moksha (liberation), through meditation and contemplation. Sadhu is usually referred to as “Baba” by common people. The word ‘baba’ also means father, or uncle, in many Indian languages. Sometimes the respectful suffix ‘ji’ may also be added after baba, to give greater respect to the renunciate. Sadhus often wear ochre-colored clothing, symbolizing renunciation. There are 4 or 5 million Sadhus in India today and they are still widely respected: revered for their holiness.Sadhus are not unified in their practices. Some live in the mountains alone for years at a time, eating only a few bananas. Others walk around with one hand in the air for decades. Still others partake in the religious consumption of charas (hand-made cannabis hashish) and contemplate the cosmic nature and presence of God in the smoke patterns. Sadhus engage in a wide variety of religious practices. Some practice extreme asceticism while others mainly focus on praying, chanting or meditating.
Featured in As Is Photography September 20, 2009. This is an AS IS photograph of a female monarch butterfly along side the chrysalis she just emerged from. Photo taken with a Canon EOS Rebel XTi and 100mm f/2.8 macro lens on my property in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. The Monarch is a milkweed butterfly (subfamily Danainae), in the family Nymphalidae. It is perhaps the best known of all North American butterflies. Female Monarchs (as shown here) have darker veins on their wings, and the males have a spot called the “androconium” in the center of each hind wing from which pheromones are released. Males are also slightly larger. The larvae and the butterflies retain poisonous glycosides from their larval host plant, the milkweed, so they become distasteful to potential predators. The monarch butterfly eats only milkweed as larvae. This highly effective defense strategy shields them against almost all predators that soon learn to avoid these species after attempting to eat them.
