This brilliant red wildflower stood out so well against all the greenery in very bright light along Plot’s Fire Trail, just south of Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia, in the Lake Innes National Park . The flower is a fine example of Callistemon pachyphyllus (Wallum Bottlebrush) . Fuji S5500: RAW, Manual settings of f/2.8 @ 1/1000sec, Macro, Hand held. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. THE SUBJECT: / These brilliant pink beauties are the sweet smelling flowers of the Boronia falcifolia (Wallum Boronia) , a fairly common variety of Boronia, found along the coastal regions of NE New South Wales to SE Queensland . THE LOCATION: / This little set was photographed along a fire trail in the Limeburners Creek Nature Reserve on the north shore of the Hastings River in Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia, on a lovely overcast late winter day. THE MAKING OF ‘Boronia falcifolia (Wallum Boronia) #1’: / I was in the company of two good Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friends on a native orchid hunt. We did not find what we were after but there were a few common varieties of wildflower in bloom to give us something to take home. Fuji S9600: Super Macro Mode, f/3.7 @ 1/340sec, Manual Focus, hand held gave me the good exposure, depth of field with a lovely bokeh and detail. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3 rendered the fine result with a minimum of tweaking. UPDATE: 31-08-08 / I have just printed this on Canon Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss Satin and it came up a treat!
