  • This photo was taken on yet another visit to the Oregon coast. I love it out there! Though often rainy, or spritzing, to me the OR coast is beautiful in any weather. This shot was captured as I was taking a morning walk on the beach. The ocean was calm, the sand wet, a bit of fog lay low on the horizon, and no one else was out there except an older couple walking together holding hands. There’s very little differentiation between the sky, sea and sand in this photograph, and the only thing that really stands out in contrast are the two figures of the couple. It looks, to me, as if they could walk on forever into the infinite distance and as if everything else fades around them when they are together.

  • Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/100, ISO100, tweaked in Photoshop We took a trip to The Lake District and did a horseshoe walk from the car park at Hawes water, going past Rough Crag and Swine Crag up Long Stile to High Street, we then headed toward Harter fell (653 metres/2142 feet) and then back down, all told about 9 miles. Haweswater is a reservoir in the English Lake District, built in the valley of Mardale in the county of Cumbria. The controversial construction of the Haweswater dam started in 1929, after Parliament passed an Act giving the Manchester Corporation permission to build the reservoir to supply water for the urban conurbations of north-west England. At the time, there was public outcry about the decision, as the valley of Mardale was populated by the farming villages of Measand and Mardale Green and the construction of the reservoir would mean that these villages would be flooded and lost and the population would have to be moved. In addition, the valley was considered one of the most picturesque in Westmorland and many people thought it should be left alone. Please view large
