  • Taken with a Canon 400D, Sigma 17-70 lens edited in Photoshop CS3 Talacre is a village in Flintshire on the North Wales coast with large holiday caravan parks adjacent. It is near Point of Ayr on the west side of the River Dee estuary and has a sandy beach with dunes. The hills of the Clwydian Range behind the village form the eastern boundary of the Vale of Clwyd. The village is probably most popular for the lighthouse on the nearby beach and the Talacre Beach Caravan Park, a short walk away from the Presthaven Sands holiday park. Talacre was used by the military during World War II, as an aircraft firing range. Fighters flew over the remote village every day, shooting at wooden targets in the dunes and at drogues towed by aircraft. It was also used for testing new devices, such as “window” the anti-radar foil that, on occasion, covered the whole village with silver. Please view large!

It was built as one of the ‘iron ring’ of North Wales castles by the English monarch Edward I, to stamp his authority on the Welsh. But it was never finished money and supplies ran out before the fortifications reached their full height. Please view large!

  • This used to be a very popular sight in the UK. Narrowboats were powered by a horse to transport coal, steel, textiles, etc. between towns and cities. In this case however, tourists are the cargo. Oh, I can assure you that a guy was walking behind this horse, although you cant see him. If you look close you can see that the horse has a mouthful of greenery that it’s picked up on the journey ….. / Taken along the Montgomery canal, between Welshpool and Newtown, Mid Wales Canon 5D, 28-135 IS lens / Photoshop CS3 / PhotoArtMaster Copyright 2009 Richie Dean

  • Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/80 second, ISO500, processed in Photoshop This shot was taken about an hour before my previous shot, the view is of the imposing coastline at South Stack on Anglesey (Wales). I attempted to put my tripod up but it just was not stable due to the amazing funneling wind I had to contend with. I ramped up the ISO to 500 and took several very quick shots handheld!!! When I got back to the car my fiancee was waiting in my hair looked like I had had a punk rocker makeover…lol!! The following is from Wikipedia South Stack (Welsh: Ynys Lawd) is an island situated just off Holy Island on the North West coast of Anglesey. It is famous as the location of one of Wales’ most spectacular lighthouses. The lighthouse has warned passing ships of the treacherous rocks below since its completion in 1809. The 28 m (91ft) lighthouse was designed by Daniel Alexander and the main light is visible to passing vessels for 28 miles, and was designed to allow safe passage for ships on the treacherous Dublin – Holyhead – Liverpool sea route. It provides the first beacon along the northern coast of Anglesey for east-bound ships. It is followed by lighthouses, fog horns and other markers at North Stack, Holyhead breakwater, The Skerries, the Mice and at the north-east tip of the island Trwyn-Du. The lighthouse is operated remotely by Trinity House. Please view large

  • Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 17-70 lens at 17mm, F11, shutter speed 1/200 second, ISO200, processed in Photoshop Whilst on Anglesey (Wales) over Christmas we went for a walk down the beach at Rhosneigr. In the summer it would be packed out with tourists but on a frosty cold winters afternoon we were more or less alone, this lovely scene caught my eye. Please view large
