Plazza San Marco, Venice about 2000 or thereabouts. Expensive coffee. Good though. Nice view from the tower and a regular shot by the tourists but then again I was one. Like being a tourist. Like coffee too.

This Parisian waiter takes a few long drags of his cigarette in between serving customers, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of taking his photograph has he enjoyed his stolen moment, it had a very Parisian feel to it.

Summer, 1997. Following a long shift a waiter takes a break in a room above the restaurant. Shot on a Pentax Programme A using available light. Old negs scanned in via Imacon, textures added in post – floorboards from another part of the building layered on top and then knocked back using layer masks. Same technique applied to stripped paint texture, also from another part of the hotel. Featured in the in-between group.

The waiters were preparing the restaurant for a busy Friday lunchtime. This waiter was clearing someone’s morning coffee cups and paused for a fraction of a second to see what was going on outside.
