Season’s Greetings.
Legless lizards are always being misidentified as snakes, and as a consequence, they often get a shovel over the back of the head! The easiest way to tell is that legless lizards have external ear openings (the small hole behind their eye) and a lizard type pointy nose. This one is the Plain snake-lizard Delma inornata and is found across eastern Australia, particularly in grassland or woodland habitats. This one was found beneath a rock in box gum woodland near Tarcutta, NSW, AU. The total length of this animal was around 20cm and about as thick as your little finger! / / Click on “View Larger” for greater detail. This amazing lizard is aptly named, very colourful. This individual is a male, and was photographed in a great woodland remnant east of Culcairn, in southern NSW, Australia. Steve is the Principal Ecologist at EnviroKey providing specialist ecological services across Australia.

This dramatic sunset was captured near Tumbarumba on the western slopes of the NSW Snowy Mountains, Australia. I took this image in town between two houses as I couldnt drive anywhere (had about 4-5 beers by this stage) For better viewing, click on view larger
