Mt. Edgecumbe, a small volcano off the coast of Sitka Alaska is rarely visible and certainly in my 20 years of traveling up there I have never once seen the sun set over Edgecumbe like this. Truly inspiring light!

Storm clouds seem to spew from top of majestic M. Rainier, almost as if this active volcano was erupting. Lupine and buttercup dot the alpine meadow in the foreground.

Mt. Bromo smolders uncomfortably close to the Indonesian metropolis of Surabaya on the island of Java. Bromo is the small, grayish cone to the left. Mt. Semeru, the highest mountain on Java, looms in the distance. The entire area is contained within the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. The area is inhabited mainly by the Tengerese People, the last Hindus left on Java.

The Alien landscape inside the creater of Haleakala on Maui, Hawaii as the sun rises over the horizon. IT was freezing cold up there with a temp of about 40 and winds of 25mph or more. We got up at 3AM to make it there for sunrise and watched the temp drop almost 40 degrees as we made out ascent.

Mt Warning is part of an mountain range that used to be extinct volcanos. Captain Cook named it as he could see it far out to sea.It rises way above the surrounding flatlands which there are many sugarcan fields. It’s about 1 hour drive from where I live. and it must be the most painted landscape in this area.

This is a tribute to one of my favourites books: The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) wrote by Antoine de Saint Exupéry in 1943. / Though ostensibly a children’s book, The Little Prince makes several profound and idealistic points about life and human nature. Saint Exupéry tells of meeting a young prince in the middle of the Sahara. The essence of the book is contained in the famous lines uttered by the fox to the Little Prince: “On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.” (One cannot see well except with the heart, the essential is invisible to the eyes).
