  • A nomad. Had come to Finland from far away North-Africa. It landed on a flower and I went closer and was ready to take a photo. Instead of just taking a picture it took me four hours making friends with this personality until I could get close enough to take any photo with macro lens. After that I could go as close as I needed to, and the admiral stayed still even when the lens occasionally touched it. I spent 4 rolls of Fuji Velvia 100. Got one good shot. I think the result was worth the effort.

  • Warm and sunny evening in a national park with my wife-to-be on May 1, 2005. Hiking in the forest and planning to stay overnight in a tent, while everybody else in whole Finland is drunk celebrating May 1st in the city or at home. I make fire and we sit down to have a bottle of champaign and make a toast… well, the story ends here, but before my glass was empty, I took a photo of fire (embers) through a glass which had few drops of champaign on the inside surface of the glass. This small crop of a photo (3×4cm), in all colors of “firechampaign”, is cloned ca. 150 times. Then every piece is rotated, moved and blended with each other. Original size is 60×90cm and printed on canvas.

  • Gediminas, the founder of Vilnius, the Capital of Lithuania. He was a cosmopolitan who opened the gates of the city to everybody, regardless of nationality, race or religion. In the 14th century, Vilnius was one of the most developed cities in Europe. It had one of the first universities in Europe. Story tells that Gediminas decided to establish the city after seeing in his dream a wolf howling at the top of a hill. I have not read any explanation for this story, but my guess is that Gediminas interpreted his dream as a sign to call all kinds of people to develop a better city. In the same way as a wolf howls to gather his pack.
