I really like this character – I think she looks cool in red! The message is about consumerism and stuff that we don’t really need, just to make us feel better and maybe ignore what the real problem is. To me it’s kind of an epidemic – especially in my generation.
Another striking colonial building in downtown Buenos Aries. Shot with film on a very hot and bright cloudless morning. I’ve left it deliberately stark to accentuate the form and graceful lines of this beautiful building. I’ve rendered as a dark sepia to indicate a sense of the timewarp sensation I had while wandering the streets of this faded belle of a city.

Sometimes I like to take photos of the backs of flowers; they are the anchor of the flower that holds the petals together but are seldom showcased in spite of their vital role. They remind me of the people who work backstage at big productions; without them the show could not go on. So this image is dedicated to all the behind the scenes people and the uncelebrated segments of life that are important but often overlooked. (This rosy double althea in my mother’s yard had a little facelift with the dry brush filter, a bit of a makeover if you will, to help it really gleam in its debut).
The River Murray, here at Swan Hill, is crucial to Australia’s water supply and agriculture, but threatened by global warming and past management practices.
The Arctic Penguin and Vic72 (aka Vital Spark) alongside Inveraray pier. The Arctic Penguin, a converted lightship, is now home to the Inveraray Maritime Museum. VIC 72 was the last working Clyde Puffer.
It’s an everyday scene, but it shouldn’t be. We are way to wasteful with our resources and we really take them for granted. In this instance, some people drink half of the water (on which energy was spent to purify and package) and toss it aside on the ground, leaving only nature to clean it up. / I’m not trying to cause a stir, I’m just saying… there was a trashcan 20 feet away and some people are just too lazy to take those 10 extra steps. This is a 4 shot HDR, one of my favorite HDRs to date!
I pass this beautiful old Cottonwood tree twice a day, six days a week on my mail route. Every time I go by, I am reminded of the blessings and trials we all have here in this beloved country of ours. This tree is old, but vital. It has been hit by lightning and wounded, yet it has not died. It has come from a rather ignoble start in a ditch, to become a monument of strength. It has been bent, but not broken. In this time of political and economical upheaval, we may be wise to look at something like this old tree and thank God He has given us the blessings He has, and to do all we can to hold on to them with His guidance.
Watching the sea pile in to Easdale’s normally sheltered harbour reminded me of the song oft sung by the Vital Spark’s crew: Oh! The Crinan Canal for me, / I don’t like the wild raging sea, / It would be too terrific to cross the Pacific, / Or sail to Japan or Fiji. / A life on the Spanish Main, / I think it would drive me insane, / The big foaming breakers would give me the shakers, / The Crinan Canal for me. For the curious, the harbour entrance is between the rocks in the foreground, and the little rock right of centre .. not the rocks with the breaking wave!
