An Artist Impression originally drawn in graphite of one of the events that took place during the Australian Tobruk campaign of World War II. On the 14th of April 1941, HMAS WATERHEN (of the ‘Scrap Iron Flotilla’) was called into Tobruk Harbour to tow out the crippled British Hospital Ship ‘VITA’ to an anchorage of about two miles outside the entrance of the harbour. The VITA had been attacked and badly damaged by German Dive Bombers. Some ‘Rats of Tobruk’ have been portrayed to be taking a breather whilst witnessing the event from a captured Italian Machine Gun Post. Approximately 1 month later, the WATERHEN was the first casualty of the Royal Australian Navy during the War whilst operating on the ‘Spud Run’ between Alexander and Tobruk; no lives were lost.

For the longest time I dreamed of a wild adventure in Italy. In April 2008 that dream became an extraordinary reality. My best friend and I flew to Italy to take photos, record organic sounds and gather information for our upcoming exhibitions. We took a wonderful photography workshop in Venice … enjoyed a cooking class in Florence and participated in an intensive painting course in Tuscany with an accomplished and well known artist. Vita tranquilla (still life) was taken at the Fattoria San Donato (farm house) in San Gimignano. The cats were always posing for the cameras. Then when they weren’t working the tourist crowd, they would fall asleep on wine barrels. (c)sooz2008

Featured Entertainment Digital Art 07 September 2007 ~ “When I am Gone Away ~ Sri Chinmoy wrote this song for his students in 1976, and asked that it be sung only upon his entry into Mahasamadhi and departure from this earth. “During the memorial service for Sri Chinmoy yesterday, the song was sung by a choir of Sri Chinmoy’s students in a way that brought heaven down to earth. When I am gone away Remember me, O children sweet, / No, not because I failed, / No, not because I cried, / No, not because I tried, / No, not because I saw my Lord in you, / No, not because I served my Lord in you, / No, not because I fulfilled my Lord in you, / No, not because I was your Pilot true, / No, not because I was your Infinite blue, / Oh, but because my life was all gratitude, / Gratitude, / gratitude / To you, / to you, / my sweet children, / to you.” Sri Chinmoy died 11 October 2007

another shot from my weekend in Lower Austria, Waldviertel. this tree is standing alone along a small road between some pretty small villages. maybe that’s the reason why it’s still there, it doesn’t really disturb anyone. not sure how old it is, but it looks pretty old – would be interesting to listen to the tree’s story. even more so as it’s just some kilometers to the Czech border… location: Luden, Waldviertel, Lower Austria / camera: Canon EOS 40D / lens: Simga 10-20 EX DC HSM / 1/30s, f/16, ISO 160 / Hoya ND8 filter
