So, my CD player disappeared, completely. This was after I uninstalled some things, so, I thought – appaently, foolishly- that I had uninstalled the wrong thing or more. I did a System Restore and all was well. My ‘D’ Drive was back and I went off to do my work, secure in the knowledge that I’d be saving my art to disk, again, in no time. Ah, but, not so! For when I went to do so, I found that the ‘D’ Drive had gone off for holiday, again. This time, though i had uninstalled some things, I was quite sure that I hadn’t uninstalled anything that could remotely relate to that particular function. I mentioned it to Dad and he told me that this is something WIndows Vista is known for, and it’s why he switched to Linux. Fine and dandy for him, but, I don’t have spare OS files of every sort just laying about waiting for me to use! I went to look up the problem and how to fix it. Now, there was someone who said there is a Registry Fix, and they gave it, saying that all you had to do was import it and all would be well. Oh goody! Import it where and how, though? That was the mystery! I went to Microsoft and they told me how to fix my problem on Windows XP. Err. .. Eventually, they told me how to fix it on Windows Vista, as well. So, I went to regedit and did all the appropriate things. Found out I had to log on to a different account, even though the Administrator had used their password to give me permission to change things about. I know! I was there! In more than one capacity! So, I logged on and found my way back to the proper place. I even remembered to save a copy of the instructions in a place where I could find it, to make sure it was the proper place, and the URL, too. You would have been so proud! Then I did all the proper things, and I know, because I opened the file to check! Finally, I restarted the computer (technically, one of the proper things to do), logged in again, and … I had two ‘D’ Drives showing. No, I am not kidding! That issue resolved itself, after a wee while, though. Now, however, my volume control is gone! Fortunately, I had it set to a sound level where music and such can be heard, but, where it is not painful to the tired-headed among us. I would like my volume control back, though. Anyone seen it? It’s light gray, usually, and slides up and down in the middle! .................................................................................. Update: One reboot = no volume bar; 2 reboots = volume bar!

  • How to get details of a digital photograph file in Windows.

More groups on RB are expecting information on the digital picture that you have taken. A lot of photography doesn’t require such detail, just a great photo. If you are in a situation where someone asks for the f-stop or ISO, this could be your guide on how to get the info you need. When you take photos from most digital cameras these days, they carry Exif information. Exchangeable image file format (Exif) that uses the existing JPEG, TIFF Rev. 6.0, and RIFF WAV file formats, with the addition of specific metadata tags. It is not supported in JPEG 2000, PNG, or GIF. For most who upload the .JPG files directly from the camera, this should work. To get the Exif properties from Vista and XP: In both versions, you go to the picture on the hard drive (From My Computer or Explorer in a File Manager view) and right click it. The menu that pops up should have “Properties” at the bottom of the menu list. In Vista, left click “Properties” and the Properties box has two or more tabs. Click on the “Details” tab and scroll down until you see the info you need. In XP, left click “Properties” then click the Summary tab and then click on the Advanced button. This should get you the values you are looking for. Disclaimer: This is a general guide. There might be issues with the digital picture, operating system or camera. This is only meant to assist in the extraction of the digital picture details.
