  • Entry for the Winery Photo & Description of Your Favourite Wine Challenge Last week in the 40 degree heat, we visited Boynton’s Feathertop Winery on the Great Alpine Road in Porepunkah, Vic. Winery Description / Established in 1989 by Kel Boynton, Feathertop remains a family owned business. / Their wines capture the essences of nature and the beauty and crispness of the Alpine Valleys. / The name Feathertop is derived from Mount Feathertop which is the commanding feature in the region, Alpine Valleys. / The mountain shelters the valley and influences the air currents. It has defined the soil structure in which the grapes are grown and provides fresh Alpine spring water for the vines. / In 2005 they started a wine club, and have only recently named it ‘Summit Cru’. Summit referring to the pinnacle of Mount Feathertop and the quintessence of their wines, and Cru “the best of the vintage”. Cru, as in crew, also carries a double meaning as Kel (the winemaker) has a rowing history. / ...and after tasting their selection ~ we joined Summit Cru ! Favourite Wine / My pick on the day was the 2006 Feathertop Merlot. Not normally a favourite for me, as I usually like fuller bodied wines, I was really surprised with this wine. With a lovely plummy nose and a wonderful berry finish, it was a sure winner for me. / But I am looking forward to when my wine club case comes, there is a $70 reserve Shiraz in there which I haven’t tasted yet!! Photograph Details / Canon 40D w/ EF-S 10-22mm / Hand held @ 10mm / ISO: 100 / Shutter: 1/100 sec / Aperture: f/5.0 / UV & CP filters / Mount Buffalo in the distance overlooking the vineyard. / Google location Map / Some information referenced from Boyntons Winery Website I appreciate you taking time to view my work, and I really enjoy reading your comments. / Thanks for visiting :-) Other Boynton winery photos from autumn
