Leonardo Da Vinci was certainly a man ahead of his time. From The Last Supper, his wonderful statues and studies, his inventions and most famously The Mona Lisa are a testament of his genious. Its amazing that such a tiny painting(and heavily guarded) has left such an imprint on Society and the art world. While reading earlier the history on Da Vinci,i couldn’t help wondering if it will be remembered further into the Future…...You may notice the backdrop is similar ,with some unique additions.A flying ship(a design forerunner to the helicopter) is based on one of his designs which i tweaked for this, just for fun! / I had a lot of fun drawing this, the face keeping Mona’s serene look and most importantly the hands which i wanted to emulate and with a slight twist. She has a slight casual appearance too, note the leg up.I hope u enjoy my future take of Mona Lisa…1000 years in the making! / This is a combination of pen, pencil and Marker
A study of lght and anatomy with a skull based on Da Vincis irst sketchesof the body.
It’s Paris, It’s the Louvre, It’s the Glass Pyramid from the Da Vinci Code. It’s also a 10-20mm lens and above all… a pleasure and privilege to have been there again!
After having so much fun with the last piece, I decided to try a series of em. I have an idea, but won’t let it out until I’m sure it will work =D This piece is focused on the ability to open up. Being vulnerable to the outside without fear or worry. My creative juices have been flowing since that week of downtime and in a way my mind has opened a little more for me to see inside and to let you see a little deeper. Only in this state of vulnerability can I truly be free, and without limitation on what I do or how I go about doing it.
For the past week or so I have been in a real deep funk. Won’t go as far as saying depressed but overwhelmed by the feeling of unhappiness. I sketched this out last night about midnight and felt that it was worth throwing up here. I wanted to capture how I’ve been feeling and this happened to pop out. No preconceived idea of what I was aiming for and was at the will of my subconscious. As you see in the image, I am gripping onto one of the only things that make me happy, and no matter how hard I squeeze, it still feels like it is slipping away. What IT is, is not important, because it can be anything that brings you any kind of joy. And as you see, without that happiness and that “constant”, I am nothing. Along with my happiness I myself begin to slip away into the darkness, hoping to meet my happiness at the bottom.
As a once psychology major, I was intrigued by Freud’s theory on the id and ego of the human psyche. It has been many years since those classes so my words may be somewhat off. But this piece is a self representation (aren’t they all?) of myself and how the “id” and “ego” play in our life decisions. We all seek pleasure and that constant feeling of euphoria, and our “id”’s only goal is to achieve those feelings without worry or care about the consequences of such actions. It is our “ego” that keeps the “id” in line, allowing us to think before we act, and to be able to foresee what may come of this pleasure seeking. It is a constant battle that wages on beneath our skin and sometimes the “id” overcomes. Some choose to live only by the “id”s bidding and never realize the destruction they leave behind when seeking their pleasures. I have been through that lifestyle once, and as much as I enjoyed such pleasures in bountiful amounts….the aftershock of those actions can still be felt today.
This piece is based on how much we base our decisions off of love. Not condemning it, but rather it intrigues me what those will do in the name of love. Many people have died for love, have fought for love, and have sacrificed for love. It’s a powerful feeling that enslaves us, causing us to react in ways we may not deem normal in a clear state of mind, but like they say, Love is intoxicating. 2nd traditional piece I’ve ever attempted with acrylics. It was (key word, was, because it was sold lol)a 18×24 inch stretched canvas with acrylics and india ink. I miss this piece dearly, but at least I have a wonderful jpeg of it’s remains.

I had the opportunity to visit The Tech Museum / in San Jose, California with my daughters class today. / The main exhibit currently is about Leonardo da Vinci and his fabulous inventions. (And inventions that never became reality) / What an adventure it was. An amazing man, I wish I could have met. / This picture is from a wall sculpture that was large and impressive. / The lighting was gorgeous. / You must make a visit if you happen in California /
This is a new style for me. / / Critiques and comments welcome / / / /

William A. Pannapacker, Ph.D – Associate Professor of English at Hope College wrote:- / If there is one conclusion to be drawn from the life of Leonardo, it is that procrastination reveals the things at which we are most gifted – the things we truly want to do. Procrastination is a calling away from something that we do against our desires toward something that we do for pleasure, in that joyful state of self-forgetful inspiration that we call genius. This humble painting I dedicate to Leonardo, someone I admire greatly. Utube Information on Leonardo Da Vinci Painting using oil, wax, graphite and pigments.

since it looks like the rain around here seems to have set in for the durataion… I’ve been amusing myself making some tee shirt designs… this one is a collaboration between myself and Rex Inkpen and it’s based on his very fine short story The Rollicking Night and it’s for a Skullduggery challenge collaboration between the Flash Fiction group and the Tee Shirt Revolution group. What I really like about Rex’s story is the ambigous time frame that it’s set in…. the smokey taven where the action happens could be contemporary or it could be set five hundred years ago so I though this very old classical pencil sketch was the perfect vechicle for dressing up with a pair of mirrored sunglasses…. what you see in life is often ambigous and not what it seems to be at first glance….. so here is a contemporary take on the skullduggery of the uber cool mirrored sunnies and what may or may not be found behind them….
I’ve had my nose buried in the art of Da Vinci over the past couple of days, re-familiarizing myself with his mastery. / As much as I love his paintings, it’s his sketchwork that intrigues me the most…... his sketch workups for his paintings have such humanity in them, his invention sketches showing us a tiny glimpse of his genius, & those anatomy sketches giving us some insight into his constant need for knowledge…. Sadly I haven’t drawn anything for almost 5 years, but today the great Master has inspired me to pick up a pen after all this time, & I have to say it feels great! This image began life 12 years ago as a single line drawing hastily sketched as a thought came into my head. I’ve often looked at it with stirrings of interest….. / So today, with visions of Da Vinci & ancient manuscripts in my head I am drawing again . 2008, Acrylic on Canvas, 24” x 18” Leonardo DaVinci must have been quite the character to have at a dinner party. I’m sure his conversations sparked some rather awkward moments as well, simply because his way of thinking was different than that of the general population. Hmmm… maybe a case of Aspergers Syndrome? Some would probably call him “weird”; others “genius”. Either way, he was one of the most influential people in history. And his most famous work, The Vitruvian Man, is in essence a measuring tool for the human form. Applied to sheep, it sets a standard of proportions and silliness, which is why Baaa Vinci is the painting which begins by Sheep Incognito book. I used earthy, old-world colors to give it the aged feel of antique paper. My favorite part is the the paunchy belly of this guy – quite contrary to the old fashioned, six-pack that DaVinci’s guy had. Meet the new beauty standard. I’ve been asked what the writing at the top of the painting means. Well, in true sheep manner they’ve followed the master and wrote Baaah, baaah, baaah maaah, maaah baaahbabamah, baaamaaah, in mirrored writing there…. It must be something about the hidden agenda of Sheep Incognito.
