The view from high up on Sail Rock, which will feature probably a bit too heavily in my pf, only because it’s so bloomin photogenic..!! Koh Similan Islands, Thailand. / To stay here overnight was fantastic as we pretty much had the beach to ourselves in the late afternoon and morning. A very different scene in the middle of the day, as it’s an ever so popular stop off point for a what seems like hundreds of boats cruising the Similans. Accomodation was in a small dome tent about 10 paces from the beach. Great to have a clear morning to highlight those awesome blues and was looking forward to another day of diving these clear, clear waters…. / thanks for looking and comments welcome as always…cheers, Rob.

the underside of a white iris can be just as beautiful as the top.

I was standing in the centre of The Shambles, a quaint medieval street in the centre of York, wondering how to take a photo that was not filled with hundreds of shoppers and tourists. The only way was to look up.

Experimenting with Digital TTV ( – Not a Photoshop filter) – my first time! This is a very anonymous picture. Each of the three visible characters (dog included) are entirely personality-less, due to their backs being turned or heads obscured. And yet, the camera’s angle is facing up to the characters, from a very low angle. Draw conclusions to this as you wish.
On a very misty day, walking along this river, I came across this view of these waterfalls all the way back into the mist. Taken hand-held, and with a slow shutter speed to blur the movement of the water.
Mist envelopes the landscape, as if in a dream, and the sun blows a kiss before she retires for the night. Shot on a Canon EOS 20D. Tripod, f11, 1/4sec, auto wb. iso 100, RAW file processed in PS CS3. The view looking North from the top of Cairnpapple Hill in West Lothian, Scotland. At 310m or just over 1000ft in height the hill offers one of the best viewpoints in central Scotland. In the centre of the shot on the southern banks of the River Forth is the town of Grangemouth (where joak of RB fame resides). Grangemouth would be a pleasant place to live except that the town is dominated by the extremely large Grangemouth Oil Refinery with its numerous gas flares and cooling towers visible across a wide area of the Scottish Lowlands (look on joak’s page for examples). Cairnpapple Hill is situated in the Hilderston Hills within the western range of the Bathgate Hills in the parish of Torphichen, West Lothian, in south-east Scotland. Cairnpapple Hill also contains one of the most significant prehistoric monuments in Scotland (look here). Camera: Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi in the USA) BEST VIEWED LARGER Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix. Related shots can be found at: Lowland Scotland. This is looking the opposite way to the renowned 12 apostles from the track leading out to the viewing headland for the 12 apostles. This is a wide angle view of the same two rock stacks I had in closeup earlier. Taken with Pentax LX camera and 28mm Pentax shift lens on Kodachrome film

The Russel Burn tumbles down from the mountains of Applecross, seen as you take the spectacular drive over the Bealach na Ba ( the Pass of the Cattle ) single track road. It is an old drover’s route, and rises to 2,053 feet, from where, on a clear day, you can see outstanding views of the Western Isles in all their glory. Mostly though, it will be so cold and windy that you will will not want to stay too long !! It is a very wild and remote area, so incredibly beautiful. Taken on a Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, / canon 17-85mm IS lens at 17mm. Polariser fitted, ( to slow the shutter for more blur) / f23, three shot hdr (-2EV , +2EV and 0EV …..from a minus 1 stop underexposure reading 0f f23, 1/15 sec. on Aperture priority ) iso 100, Auto wb, RAW files converted in Photomatix and Adobe CS3. / Finished with a little Orton.
