The view looking out onto Broad Street from a third-floor window of the Divine Lorraine Hotel in Philadelphia, PA. The hotel, which has been abandoned since the late ‘90s, takes it’s name from the leader of the Universal Peace Mission movement, Father Divine (aka George Baker) who housed his followers on it’s premises. Shot on Fuji Velvia 50 film with a Rolleiflex medium format camera.

I was having lunch with my beautiful wife the other day at a rather unusual place, right across the road from my office. Never been there before… it was at the Northern Metropolitan Institute of Tafe and they have the special room on the third floor where trainee chefs get to practice their cooking skills and serve to the unsuspecting public. This was the view virtually from the table I was sitting at… the view was way better than the food!

Best Viewed Large One of the most striking aspects of Venice, Italy, apart from the glorious cathedrals, famous bridges and other magnificent and historic structures … are the intriguing dwellings lining the canals. The romance and mystery reach out and grab the imagination by the heart … some of us leave our hearts there … hoping someday to return!! Image taken in July of 2005 with the hand held Olympus C-5000 zoom point and shoot. Post processing included some Photoshop tinkering and a trip to Photomatix for hdr with a single image, eval +/- 2. I subsequently put the image into Corel Paint 11 for some brushstroke work on the flowers.

Room with a View / MCN: C6MWJ-FS2G9-H56LU This image was composed for a competition. It consists of two basic images, one of a wheat field and the other a lake backed by mountains. The window was drawn by hand and included the frame and all of the fittings. The birdcage was also drawn and the flower images combined with the watering can to form a display. by Kim CalvertThe house sits like her heart… Empty, once full of love and life, now the halls echo with the laughter..the joy of their love, Memories of happiness are all she has. He left for work that day with a kiss to her lips, a “I love you” on his way out the door, she waved to him out the window and blew him a kiss..if she only knew that would be the last time she tasted his kiss, felt his touch,she would never have let him go..The only relief out of all this pain and heartache is he didn’t suffer, when the truck hit his car head on, he died instantly. Now she waits, unable to leave their home, not wanting to go on, knowing that he waits for her..she prays for “HER” life after death, to be in his arms again, to feel his kiss, his touch, to make this house their home for eternity, the way it should have been..but again she wakes to the emptiness of the halls, the emptiness of their bed and of her heart..she goes to the window and like a movie played over and over agiain she sees him getting into his car..she pounds on the window..yells for him to STOP!!!..to COME BACK!!!...and like every day he pulls away and disappears into thin air…leaving her again.to her pain, and their empty house.
