I crossed paths with this handsome young buck in velvet while hiking deep in the woods of Cades Cove, Smoky Mountains, Tennessee, USA. He seemed to be such a gentle creature, enjoying the new leaves of spring. He allowed me to photograph him for quite a while, as long as I stood very still. He always kept one eye on me as he enjoyed the tender vegetation. Other works in the Cades Cove Collection: Check out these other great animal cards: (Simply Click on the thumbnail to purchase!)
Greyhound racing is the sport of racing greyhounds. The dogs chase a lure (an artificial hare or rabbit) on a track until they arrive at the finish line. The one that arrives first is the winner. / In many countries, greyhound racing is purely amateur and conducted for enjoyment. In other countries (particularly the UK, US, Ireland and Australia), greyhound racing is a popular form of gambling, similar to horse racing. / (wikipedia.org)
Original is acrylic on canvas. /

this is one of the many shots I shot while in washington dc, our nations captial. / this is the washington monument behind the memorial fountain dedicated to all the veterans who are in and have fought in our nation’s wars. each pillar represents a state. / it was an amazing experience being able to actually view these monuments instead of always viewing thru photos. so to the vets and their families…thanks for all you have done for us. even tho most of us are lousy at showing it, we do appreciate all you have done and do for us. Shot this in SS priority, with SS set at 1/200, Fstop at F14, ISO at 100, and focal lenth at 50mm (dedicated lens for 50mm)
Please remember to thank our veterans today on this national holiday. Heck, even if you do not live in the US, thank your Veterans in your respective nation for their service. Even most never receive the highest military honor granted, they and their families have sacrificed in many ways to defend their nation from harm. To all Veterans out there, “Thank You” from a fellow vet. Image taken from headstone of CASSIDY, MICHAEL Rank and Organization: Landsman, U.S. Navy. Born: 1837, Ireland. Accredited To: New York. G.O. No.: 45, 31 December 1864. Citation: Served on board the U.S.S. Lackawanna during successful attacks against Fort Morgan, rebel gunboats and the ram Tennessee, in Mobile Bay, 5 August 1864. Displaying great coolness and exemplary behavior as first sponger of a gun, Cassidy, by his coolness under fire, received the applause of his officers and the guncrew throughout the action which resulted in the capture of the prize ram Tennessee and in the destruction of batteries at Fort Morgan. /
This is a shot taken at the Vietnam’s Memorial wall. I was only a kid when that war went on, but this wall holds a special place in my heart. A few years ago in Memphis TN, the moveable memorial wall had come into town. It was at a time when my back was injured and I wasnt able to work. Going stir crazy staying at home being able to do nothing I ended up being a volunteer for the weekend. Helping the men find their buddies on the wall, doing sketches of the names that were there (you take a charcoal pen, a piece of paper and sketch the name), and just listening to the men and women that went thru that battle that, for the time, most didnt want to call it a war. / This really touched me deep inside, watching grown men cry til their bodies shivered. I got to a point I hated finding a buddy in the book of over 58,000 names because I knew the outcome of the person asking. They wanted to know but then again they didnt. And you can bet, it did bring tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat I didnt think would ever leave. / It was a serious new light about this war that so many were against. It’s a shame our soliders came home to people spitting on them and calling them names..instead of just saying..Welcome Home and Thanks for all you have done. / So it was a definite must to have gone to this wall, and capture the people who were so silent walking past the many names that are there. / So to you Vietnam Vets, the only thing I can say to you is….. Welcome Home. Shot this in SS priority, SS at 1/250, Fstop at F14, exposure comp at 0, ISO at 200
On a day that’s hard to appreciate, or even swallow down, the definition of a Veteran seems unavoidably linked with an older generation. I don’t feel like a Vet. My grandfather is a Veteran, myself on the other hand, I feel as though I fall into an undefinable category. Generation X who has become “Generation Kill,” and subsequently slips right back into society, undetectable. The pain, fear and horror of what we’ve gone through is repressed, so that we can move fluidly back into this madness we call America, and continue our lives. The transition is impossible and just like generations before us, we will never fit it. Self portrait. 1/30 sec. @ f2.8 with Nikon N90s on self-timed. Mosul, Iraq Circa 2006
