“Well I went to the Vets today and the results were good for Blue..but he said I needed putting to sleep…LMAO! / I registered Blue with the PDSA,and if you could have seen the state I got into attempting to get Blue into the cat Box…I was in a right mucking fuddle. He was trapped in the kitchen with me,and I thought I am going to be mauled to death here.Legs straddling the box….both me and Blue,he picked up the doormat with his claws, and even though he was almost in,I had to let him go because he and the mat wouldn’t have fitted…it was hilarious! / He grumbled and growled, but eventually I managed to do it..I was sweating like a pig.Never have I had to do this before, and it was obviously picked up by Blue,(I never got one scratch,he kept his claws away from me..such a blessed little soul. / We drove the vets, and every now and then, Blue gave such pitiful meows..my heart was breaking..! / What was I doing to this little thing I asked myself, but I had to be strong..I wanted to know if he was ok,and if this is what I had to do,so be it. / Awaiting our turn in the surgery, the place was packed out and Blue was the only Puss amongst loads of dogs, large small and teeny tiny pups.! / The vet opened the cage, and had to tip it upside down to get Blue out,I couldn’t believe it…the fight I had to get him in and now he didn’t want to come out…lol! / He looked at his eyes, and checked his teeth, felt his tummy and took his temperature, and Blue never murmered throughout the ordeal at all. / He gave Blue a relatively thorough health check and antibiotic jab,and said if it got worse I was to take him back in a couple of days, but he seems fine he said. / I was pleased I had taken him,and felt the weight come off my shoulders instantly. / I though to myself…”Oh my God…gotta get him back into the frigging Box now”!,and imagined all sorts of shennigans, with Blue ducking and diving as he had in my kitchen,,,not Blueboy,he crawled back into the box like a pussy cat…Oh Yes..he IS a PUSSY CAT aint he?LMAO. / When we got home I expected him to do a runner, but he went to his dish and started feeding his face..none the worse for his experience thank God. / I feel so much happier now,and all I can say is fingers crossed for his future with his New Family, who cared enough to get him sorted, not like the creatures who owned him before we did..! / Thanks for the advice everyone..I am one happy soul now,but I can’t find Blue at the moment..hope he hasn’t taken offence,,,I only have one fence…!!Apologies people,as you can see I am crackers today, but so relieved! / (SIGH).

As you probably know,we have a visiting cat who is here with us a majority of the time. / When we went away,I informed the owner we would be away for 2 weeks and to make sure that Blue was fed and watered, but left food with my neighbour just in case! / On our return home,I noticed Blue had lost weight and his eyes were dull, and the third eyelid was visible and didn’t retract and it looked awful. / Told the owners Mother (my so called friend) to tell her daughter about the problem. This was a month ago,and nothing has been done…I suspect my friend didn’t pass on the message.Blue is a lot better now,but that 3rd eyelid is still obvious especially when you tickle under his chin…awww! / As I have reported the owners to the RSPCA before,I am loathe to do this again, but I can’t take the animal to the vet’s because he isn’t our cat! / I know the third eyelid could be due to weight loss and lots of other thing as well..any ideas on how I can deal with poor Blue, without alienating the owner yet again. / Should I make out the cat is mine and take him anyway..?

I crossed paths with this handsome young buck in velvet while hiking deep in the woods of Cades Cove, Smoky Mountains, Tennessee, USA. He seemed to be such a gentle creature, enjoying the new leaves of spring. He allowed me to photograph him for quite a while, as long as I stood very still. He always kept one eye on me as he enjoyed the tender vegetation. Other works in the Cades Cove Collection: Check out these other great animal cards: (Simply Click on the thumbnail to purchase!)

we have just rang vet, they have to keep her overnight the first attempt of extracting urine resulted in just loads of blood, but second attempt released urine, hilary dougill was spot on and I thank her so much and indeed everyone who was so caring to leave comments, anyway the vet says they think she had a kidney stone stuck, no lasting damage to kidneys, as far as they can tell through blood test but it will be a special diet in future its going to be a hefty bill but she is a marvellous vet even tho cos we are on low money she could have gone to the PDSA, we will just have to struggle for a few weeks, she is worth every penny and so so glad we took her. / We have to pick her up in morning at 9, she was so scared of the vet she jumped onto waynes shoulders, dug her claws in and was hard to get off, hate thinking of her there but know its for the best. again thanks for your kind and caring comments she is one huge part of our family lv to all suexx

VBS Jordy and I just got home from the vets and he has had his stitches removed :) I think he had about 35 stitches in total, so it was a bit of a job ;) But I can tell he is so happy to have them out because now he is back to rubbing and bumping his head on everything, including me :) :) VBS I will try to get some photos tonight and upload them to my blog (Maybe tomorrow) :) He still looks all shaved, but he is looking so much better :) :) Don’t forget the Jordy Fund. :) It’s doing really well and so far sales from my works have raised $152.50 towards Jordy’s bills :) :) Thank you all so much for helping out and sharing the love, it is so much appreciated :) :) MEOW :) :) Here is a run down of the costs P.S. :) If you have posted what you purchased in the Buyers Booth, PLEASE send me the link and I will start making those links available for others to look at too :) :)

  • A couple of dingos at a sanctuary. they were happy enough but through the wire they seemed to be asking to be released. Your local dog shelter has many dogs waiting to be released. Unlike these dingos however, your local dog shelter can only keep them so long before having to put them to sleep. If you want a dog, get one from there – not the pet shop. / If you get a dog, get it for life – not just for ‘now’. / And when you get a dog, unless you have a really good reason not to, you should have it de-sexed. There are too many dogs (and cats!) that end up unwanted, unloved and un-alive It’s a rework of Please Release Me only I added some words to it.

Okay … after much anxiety and stress I finally rang my Credit Card company and they agreed to lift the limit on my Mastercard enough so that I can now pay for Jordy’s operation on the day!! At first I thought I could pay the bill via payments, but when I rang to talk to them about that, they simply said they’d rather full payment … or at least 50%. So I have been stressing a lot about that, but now I have the credit (and with the help from the Jordy Fund … I am in the process of booking him in. I rang them Wednesday Morning to let them know I have the money and want to go ahead … they still haven’t rang me back (am expecting a phone call at work today). I am really anxious because the longer this is left, the more chance the cancer has spread. Jordy has got a bit worse. The tumor on his eyelid is now big enough that it is rubbing halfway up his eyeball … and has started to secrete some sort of pus … so his eye is always dirty. Plus it is still bleeding a lot. He is still purring a lot and he sleeps with me (he has got really close lately). I will try to get some photos of him before the op … and progress shots after the op .. but will post them on my blog, because they won’t be pretty photos sadly. But I think everyone has a right to know that this is real … that your money is going to a good cause. I want to take this opportunity to once again thank those who have purchased my work knowing the profits are going towards Jordy’s Operation. As of writing this … together we have raised just under $100!!!! That is amazing. But please … keep buying :) :) It helps so much!!!! Hopefully after the phone call today … I will be heading to Perth either tonight or tomorrow for an overnight stay. Fingers crossed!! For those interested in seeing where the money goes … I will break down what has been spent so far and predict future costs. It’s amazing how much it adds up :( Merriden Vet Clinic (Initial Consultation about growth on eyelid) Consultation – $44 / IDEXX Blood Test – $125 / Anaesthesia Inhalation 1st hr – $110 / Cryosurgery – $50 / Biopsy – $33 / Histopathology – $125 / BETAMOX LA Injection – $13.45 / METACAM Injection (pain relief) -$15.77 / METHOPT TEARS 50mg BAYTRIL – $21.35 / MELOXICAM ORAL 10ml – $23.72 Total for Vet Bill – $566.30 (Paying this off) Trip to Murdoch Vet Hospital for prognosis last week. Fuel – $110 / Consultation – $129 Total – $239 (I borrowed $200 from a guy here for that trip and am paying him back) Operation Total Fuel – $79 / Operation – $2099 Total – $2178 Grand Total – $2983.33

  • Drama on a Sunday Afternoon
    by Estelle O'Brien

It started off being a quiet afternoon – I had turned the phone off and pulled down the blinds to have an afternoon nap… I was sudde…

It started off being a quiet afternoon – I had turned the phone off and pulled down the blinds to have an afternoon nap… I was suddenly awoken by thudding footsteps on our wooden verandah and frantic thumping at the front door. My next door neighbour’s voice calling anxiously, “Quick Quick, Come over- Misty’s hurt herself.” Misty is an old grey mare of indeterminate breeding, large, slow and friendly, with cancer lumps spreading over her body, as often happens with greys. She lives in a paddock next door to us with her faithful mate, Honey, a beautiful chesnut Arab mare. We call them “the girls” as they frequently break out of their paddock to come visit our “boys’ – Pilgrim and Oscar, our two geldings. Her owner, Naomi, is a breeder of Border Collie sheepdogs: she has seven of her own and this weekend was babysitting another three. Naomi is a dog expert, but her knowledge fo horses is limited, as she is the first the admit. She is a wonderful taker-in-of animals….it was through her that we got Kevin the stray Kitten a couple of weeks ago. Both of her horses were given to her as they were no longer wanted by their previous owners. I struggled to put my jeans back on and ran sleepily out the door. I shouted to Dennis to bring our car while I jumped in Naomi’s four wheel drive. She told me, as she drove furiously the 300 metres between her house and mine, that she had taken Honey out for a ride, and Misty being upset that her paddock mate had gone without her, had gotten tangled up in the wire around Naomi’s veggie garden. Poor Naomi was shaking and very upset….we had all ridden the old grey mare only yesterday, trying out a new saddle. Misty was tied to the back verandah post with blood literally gushing out of her front nearside leg. She had a nasty gash straight up behind her hoof which was bleeding profusely, with half a dozen dogs hanging around licking it up. “First thing is to stop that bleeding” I said. I held the leg up while Naomi wrapped it fast with bandage. The back offside leg was also bleeding and turned out to have a gash just as bad as the front leg. Bandaging them both to stop the flow of blood, I raced back to my place to get the vet’s after hours number. Although she came straight away, being quite a way off the main roads, it still took the vet an hour an a half to reach us. Blood was still seeping out despite our bandaging. With Naomi holding the poor old horse’s head to soothe and reassure her, me acting as doctor’s nurse and passing the instruments, we sedated her, injected her with anesthetic, and Mary-anne the vet began suturing immediately. It took quite a deal of stitching up and no guarantee that it will hold. Operating in the paddock with dogs and cats hanging about are not the ideal conditions, but this was an emergency. Little did I know, it wasn’t to be the only one of the day. After an hour or so of us all holding and working on Misty in the hot sun…we finally had a break to get a drink of water. The old mare was considerabley relieved with painkillers and sedation, and the stitched up wounds were now heavily bandaged. Just as the adrenelin was starting to subside, my husband Dennis came roaring up in our four wheel drive. Our two dogs, Bonnie and Phoenix, had been missing since yesterday. They are hunting dogs which we “rescued” as puppies from pig- hunters last year. Of course, we don’t hunt with them, they are much loved pets…but it’s hard to stop them chasing the kangaroos. As anyone in the Aussie bush can tell you, in a fight between a ‘roo and a dog, the dog will often come off second best. For city folk reading this, kangaroos will gouge a dog who is harrassing it with their powerfully sharp claws on their legs, or often they will lead a dog to the water and drown them by holding them under. We love our dogs AND the ‘roos, so it is sometimes a job to keep them apart. Dennis ran over with Phoneix in his arms. “Thank goodness you are still here” he said to Mary-anne the vet. He laid Phoenix on the outdoor table and exposed a gaping hole in her side. At first I thought it was a bullet wound, but on closer inspection, the vet decided it was probably inflicted by a big roo. Phoenix was in a bad way, she couldn’t even lift her head, she was badly dehydrated, she had a temperature and the wound had already begun to get infected. The other dog, Bonnie, after seeing her mate make it home, had collapsed with exhaustion. We live in very rough mountainous terrain and they could have been miles away when she got injured. So, rather than making out her bill and driving off, Mary-Ann got her stitching needle back out and went to work on Phoenix, right there on the old table in the paddock. Phoenix was in such a bad way, she didn’t even murmur when the vet cut away the bad flesh and washed out the great hole in her side ad began stitching. I held the dogs head as she looked up at me with complete trust. After stitching the flesh to the muscle, we began the job of redyrating her. Six injections of fluid didn’t do it- so we put an intraveinous drip in her front paw right there in the paddock and took turns holding the bag of saline up over her till we got another ltire of fluid into her. As the sun began to dip behind the mountain…people all exhausted and animals stitched up….we wrote out our cheques to the vet and wearily began the evening chores of feeding the horses and animals. I was so tired last night I didn’t even check my Bubble! Phoenix is looking much better this morning and Misty is off to a friend’s to be stabled for a week to stop her walking around on her badly injured legs. She will hopefully make a good recovery, but won’t be able to be ridden for a long time. She’s such a faithfull old girl, she is nice to have around just as a friend. And Phoenix, hopefully when she recovers, will think twice before she races up the mountain after a ‘roo again. Phew, I feel tired again just writing about it. That was my quiet Sunday afternoon yesterday!

  • I'VE HAD BETTER DAYS
    by Sharon Perrett

This morning I awoke at about 5-50am. Got up went to the bathroom and then sat at my computer to sort a couple of photos before the mad rush of the day began. Anyway while sitting there I also had my tv on as a lot of the schools were closed today because of the teachers strike and I wanted to listen out for any last minute closures as some children like Katie still had school as they are sitting their SATs soon. The weather forecast came on, band of rain coming, wet and windy day, lots of showers clearing in the afternoon…..... sighhhhhhh, so I decided to look out my bedroom window and see if it was raining but to my surprise no rain but a beautiful big rainbow so I grabbed my camera and managed a couple of shots before it faded …...........now I know why I take my camera to bed with me LOL. After dropping Katie off at Breakfast Club at school, by which time it was raining cats and dogs I went to Mum’s to check on her and have coffee and toast, I had Grahame with me this morning as he had day release college through his job but I had to take Katie’s cat to the vets as she had an eye infection gone very bad and I needed his help. We managed to get her from her hiding place eventually and got her in a portabox. It was bad news at the vets her eye is so bad that tomorrow they are going to put her out and remove the eye, I should explain here that Louisa the cat, had gone walkabout and we thought run over but she turned up out of the blue a couple of days ago looking a bit worse for wear. To cut a long story short, they gave us a quote for her eye surgery and aftercare £350-00 approx plus the cost of any medication or further treatment that she might need. We don’t have pet insurance but they have kindly said once everything is done they will work out a payment plan with us and to possibly expect the total bill to be around £450-00. Feeling rotten and worrying about Louisa we decided to have a drive around with our cameras and see if anything was happening at any of our haunts. By about 11-30am the showers had eased up although it was quite windy and overcast. I suggested going to Stansted House Gardens as it was free, not far from home and after uploading some summer shots over the last few days I was eager to see how it looked at springtime. The heavens smiled on us and the sun came out and went in and came out LOL….. it didn’t rain, was still a bit windy but we had sun on and off and blue sky. We wandered around for a few hours taking pics of flowers and trees and I was excited to see all the plants in bud ready to spill their beautiful flowers soon, I can’t wait to go back in a few weeks and see. At about 2-30pm we got back to the car after getting some great shots. Just as we got in the car the sky darkened and it hammered down with rain again. So now I am just about to sort through the pictures taken today and hopefully have some beautiful flowers and foliage images to upload soon…....... sooooooooooo how was YOUR day today…...........??

A relative sent me the following in an e-mail this evening. It’s very cutting – the punchline is not what I expected. WARNING: Some people may find this offensive If you are easily offended, please, don’t read any further. It’s for fun and a good laugh. One December day, we found an old straggly cat at our door. She was a sorry sight, starving, dirty, smelled terrible, skinny, and hair all matted down. We felt sorry for her so we put her in a carrier and took her to the vet. We didn’t know what to call her so we named her ‘Pussycat.’ The vet decided to keep her for a day or so. He said he would let us know when we could come and get her. My husband (the complainer) said, ‘OK, but don’t forget to wash her, she stinks.’ He reminded the vet that it was his WIFE (me) that wanted the dirty cat, not him. My usband and my Vet don’t see eye to eye. The vet calls my husband El-Cheap-O’, and my husband calls the vet ‘El-Charge-O’. They love to hate each other and constantly snipe at one another, with my husband getting in the last word on this particular occasion. The next day, my husband had an appointment with his doctor, who is / located in the same building, next door to the vet. The MD’s waiting room and office was full of people waiting to see the doctor. A side door opened and the vet leaned in – he had obviously seen my husband arrive. He looked straight at my husband and, in a loud voice, said, ‘Your wife’s pussy doesn’t stink any more. We washed and shaved it, and now she smells like a rose. Oh, and, by the way, I think she’s pregnant. God only knows who the father is!’ Then he closed the door. Now THAT, my friends, is getting even.
