  • Featured For The Love Of Jesus – 8/5/2009 / The Picture of Scripture – 5/29/2009 / You’re Accepted – 5/25/2009 While out on a church picnic celebrating Memorial Day Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Camp El-Har in Dallas, TX, I noticed this cross atop one of the cabins. We had cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms in the forecast, but the rain stayed away. I went horseback riding (one of my most favorite things to do) with two of my nieces, and the pastor of our church. There was honeysuckle all along the trail, it smelled so sweet. All that came had a great time. Taken with a Kodak Easyshare Z812 IS HD camera with image stabilizer, Schneider-Kreuznach/Variogon 36mm-432mm (equivalent) AF 12X Optical Zoom.

  • The Waste of Drought and Chord I defy you, / Chord— / Immerse me in dread of key strokes / And rolling song / that tread upon music’s marrow, / That unrelenting swallows of sodden harmony escape neither my heart, / Nor well-hidden fawns’ veil. / Let nothing flee the scouring of an emptying heart / That refuses to lend mercy. / Exposed are the bare spells of time; / Haunted, my reckless rhythms, / Now spurned by worse than I dared think I was. / Chord, / Swallow up the crumbling bits of bank and hollow / And haul away to other places, / That which my ears can no longer abide. Hide no more from me (for some sake I cannot name) / The darkest corners of remembrance and insight. / They are as meaningless as two notes more / In the deluge that will not weaken.

  • And the angel said to them, “Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased!” / Luke2:10-14 /

  • Lorenzo's Oils _(or Lorenzo's Painted Universe)_
    by Matt Penfold

When cast upon this hostile shore / I didn’t lose my faith nor curse / This nutshell opened up for me / Lorenzo’s painted universe

I started writing short verses for a series of paintings: “Eighteen Images in Search of a Poet” by Lorenzo Castello. / If you haven’t seen the Tanka verses, also written for this series by Jane Solomon, they are well worth a read, as are a number of other lovely poems by various artists which you’ll find as comments on the images. / I decided to join my verses together as one long and semi-cohesive poem, the meter is not consistent because I wrote a number of these as stand alone verses and had already posted them as comments. I have tried to tie them in and I think it works after a few reads to get the rhythm sorted. I have also recorded it right here I’d like to thank Lorenzo for the inspiration and for permission to include his wonderful images here.
