Vermillion Lakes – Banff – Alberta – Canada. Taken earlier this year during the peak of the Canadian Winter. The color verion of this shot is quite nice although there’s something about the mono that does it for me….thanks for looking. cheers, Rob.

Despite its discomforts, winter in South Dakota offers some of the most beautiful opportunities for photography. I took this picture at a county park near the Missouri river on a morning that was graced with new fallen snow and a dense fog that often hovers near the waters of the river.

The Vermillion river in winter near Vermillion in Southeastern South Dakota. This is my favorite river to canoe in Summer. It is quiet and secluded and I never see another single person on it.

This photograph was taken at the base of Spirit Mound, north of Vermillion, South Dakota. An evening stroll around this historical landmark last summer gave me the chance to enjoy some of the wildflowers against the backdrop of a neon orange sun dropping onto the horizon.

I did not expect to luck out when we headed out to Banff on Sunday for a late night concert- the weather has been so blustery and grey here lately- but the clouds broke for about a half hour while we were walking the dog at Vermillion lake- so I just happened to be in the right place at the right time! I was thrilled with this one, the weather over the Rockies can be so dramatic.
