  • will nobody love me?
    by Adriana Glackin

    US$6.65–US$114.00

An abandoned Victorian Italianate style house (c.1880-90) in Annandale, an inner city suburb of Sydney. Sitting proudly in a corner position of this hip and happening suburb, it had once been loved and cared for – if you look closely, you can see that one of the previous owners, at some stage, installed an alarm – a measure sure to deter possible intruders. Today, some of the lacework is missing, the fence posts have deteriorated, the concrete probably has cancer, the garden is full of weeds, steps to the front door are missing…will nobody love it anymore?

simple colours…repetition…light and shade… / my first really good painting. this painting changed my life… / my homage to Edward Hopper, particularly 1960 painting People in the Sun (National Museum of American Art Washington DC), the windows of ‘Summer Evening’ 1947, and ‘Summertime’ 1943. Now I just have to produce amazing work for the next 50 years or so and I may be able to hold a candle to the man as an artist…just gotta find me a subservient partner to cook and clean while I get famous…mmmm / the actual house is on the ocean front at Currumbin Beach , Queensland. /

  • First Sunset
    by Amanda McLennan

    US$4.32–US$98.80

This sunset was the very first of 2008. Taken from our front verandah, this was one of the most spectacular sunsets I had ever seen. This photo is slightly cropped along the bottom, but is compleately untouched. I think all of Perth will remember this sunset (if they weren’t too hungover from the night before), the sky was brilliant. /

  • This is the verandah at my sister’s work. She sent me a photo and I painted this for her. I was just learning then, quite a few years back now. This little watercolour (6”x6”) hung in pride of place at her office til they moved. Thanks for looking :-)

  • Down Under
    by Naomi Frost

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Ok, this is a pic of what a typical Aussie backyard used to be like before people started building houses right on top of each other. Of course it’s never usually this frosty looking…but….whilst I was racking my brain trying to come up with a name for it I started singing the song “Down Under” by Men At Work, so that’s what I called it. / / Down Under by Men At Work / / Traveling in a fried-out combie / On a hippie trail, head full of zombie / I met a strange lady, she made me nervous / She took me in and gave me breakfast / And she said, / / “Do you come from a land down under? / Where women glow and men plunder? / Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder? / You better run, you better take cover.” / / Buying bread from a man in Brussels / He was six foot four and full of muscles / I said, “Do you speak-a my language?” / He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich / And he said, / / “I come from a land down under / Where beer does flow and men chunder / Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder? / You better run, you better take cover.” / / Lying in a den in Bombay / With a slack jaw, and not much to say / I said to the man, “Are you trying to tempt me / Because I come from the land of plenty?” / And he said, / / “Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah) / Where women glow and men plunder? / Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder? / You better run, you better take cover.”

  • My Gramp.
    by Melinda Kerr

    US$4.32–US$98.80

When I was 15 I was very, very ill and ended up in hospital for 7 months. / It seemed everyone who visited me gave me fluffy toys or flowers. / But not my Gramp. / He gave me a pad and a pen. / And he said ‘write…’ / I said ‘why?’ / And he said ‘you must write…it’s important. You must write about what you see, who you meet and how you feel. It’s very important to write.’ / That was 29 years ago, / I’ve been a copywriter for 20 years. / He died when I was 18. / This photo was taken in 1970. / He’s never left my heart. / I know it’s self indulgent, but I wanted to upload this. / He loved photography.

  • Lemonthyme Lodge
    by Jane Keats

    US$4.32–US$98.80

This was the location for the wedding I went to on the weekend, a beautiful day and pristine wilderness only briefly interrupted by the log cabins of this lodging. The hospitality was wonderful here, I would recommend it to anyone spending time near Cradle Mountain in Tasmania. Tasmania herself impressed us from the moment we glimpsed the blue waters and green forests and farmlands from the sky, to when we arrived at the heart of the mountains and wilderness! The old fella here on the verandah was the landscaper (he built the BBQ’s and retaining walls). He gave us some great conversation over our morning coffee as heads were clearing from the celebrations the night before.
