  • Appartments on los canales, Lecheria, Venezuela

  • I’ve combined a variety of plumeria blossoms in this collage. One thing which I think is extremely interesting is the fact that in order to produce plumeria with splashes or splotches of color in one bloom, the botanist injects the plant with a virus. It does not kill the plant but alters its coloration with splashes of varied hues.

  • Caracas, Venezuela

  • This shot is of a seldom visited valley along the Canaima river in Canaima national park Venezuela. I visited here with Miguel my gude and a few others. He informed me that he thinks that somewhere back in there, there might be a route to the top of the cliffs and from there hopefully a path to Angel falls the tallest water fall in the world. He claimed that no one had ever been back there not even anyone from his village. Since then my imagination has been racing about making a return trip. This is the best place I have ever been in the world because of what it represents. Just a few steps more and figuratively it would be as if you were walking on the moon. Each new step being a virgin step the planets first. It is amazing to think that there are places still left on this earth where man has not ventured. • Violaceous Euphonia – Female Female: Male: The Violaceous Euphonia, Euphonia violacea, is a small passerine bird in the true finch family. It is a resident breeder from Trinidad, Tobago and eastern Venezuela south to Paraguay and northeastern Argentina. The bird’s range in northern Brazil is the lower portion of the Amazon Basin and the adjacent Tocantins River drainage, with its northwestern limits from Brazil and the Guyanas, the eastern banks of the Orinoco River drainage in central Venezuela. It occurs in forests, second growth and plantations of cocoa and citrus fruit. The ball nest is built on a bank, tree stump or cavity and the normal clutch is four, sometimes three, red-blotched white eggs, which are incubated by the female. / A pairAdult Violaceous Euphonias are 11.4 cm long and weigh 14 g. The male has glossy blue-black upperparts and a deep golden yellow forehead and underparts. The female and immature are olive green above and greenish yellow below. These are social birds which eat mainly small fruit and only rarely take insects. The Violaceous Euphonia’s song is a varied mix of musical notes, squeaks, chattering and imitation. Members of the genus Euphonia are prized as cage birds and several are threatened by trapping, but this species benefits from its relatively inaccessible habitat. • As the sun rose and the light began to shine through the branches and leaves, the spray from the nearby fall caught the rays and produced this beautiful display =D / The image was taken in Llovizna Park in Bolivar state, Venezuela Shot with Pentax K110D – Pentax 18-55mm – ND2 & Polarizer

  • In Llovizna Park (Puerto Ordaz, Bolivar state in Venezuela) there are several “islands” created by the many lakes and streams throughout the park and are accessible by foot bridges and paths such as these. Shot with a Pentax K110D – Pentax 18-55mm – ND2 and Polarizer / Saturation, levels, sharpening in Photoshop CS3

  • Early morning in one of the countless open fields in Llovizna Park in Bolivar state, Venezuela. The weather wasn’t playing ball, it was overcast and light rain was coming down, that coupled with mild to strong winds made it quite a drag to be out before dawn shooting, keeping the lens and filters free of rain drops was quite a challenge. No colorful sunrise for me, but I decided to shoot infrared and I was extremely pleased with the results =) / 1 RAW capture, processed in Adobe Camara RAW with slight curves adjustments, then in Photoshop CS4, I swapped the red and blue channels then level adjustments to even out the RGB channels and the color balance, contrast correction and sharpening. • This work was featured in the groups: Artrageous RB Artists , Venezuela and Smiles / Also won the challenge Group Avatar in the group “Venezuela” I felt a little bit home sick today, to drain all those emotions I painted the venezuelan flag on my face, took myself a picture and started to think on all those things that I miss, and it’s pretty much everything. All the words you see are related to my country: people, places, food and much more that only venezuelans would appreciate. The result? this poster , loaded with my emotions. / =D

  • I got a chance to go very early in the morning with some upcoming local photographers to Llovizna Park, Bolivar state in Venezuela, we had a great time and as I taught them some of the more technical aspects of photography I also learned from them as they each had their own unique perspective on photography. It was also great to view the images we had taken and criticize each others work and learn from the mistakes. / I took them to Llovizna Park because it never ceases to amaze me how inexhaustible it can be, there is always something interesting to photograph =) / For this image I actually placed one of the tripod legs into the water and got it down as low as it would go. The lighting was simply beautiful and coming in from the side which gave great highlights in the moving water. The mosquitoes were swarming all over, but I was rewarded this photo for all my suffering =D Pentax K110D | Pentax DA 18-55mm | Tiffen 2 stop ND and Tiffen Circular Polarizer | Tripod

  • I was shooting the skyline of the city (Puerto Ordaz, Bolivar state, Venezuela) while a storm was brewing, I was about to go home (the rain was coming in fast) and as I was packing away my gear this partial rainbow appeared, I unpacked the gear I needed and shot away. It was only visible for a few minutes as the clouds let through some sun and then was gone as suddenly as it appeared =) I barely got everything packed away before everything got dark and we got treated to a nice storm =D HDR Image, 5 RAW Compiled in Photoshop, tonemapped in Photomatix and then back in to Photoshop for noise reduction, contrast, and sharpening. • Young Pemon child playing on a derelict tractor in his home town of Camarata, Bolivar state, Venezuela.

  • Young Pemon girl fondling her snack a gusano de Moriche (larva of the Moriche palm) A delicacy in the Canaima region of Venezuela. This particular one she eventualy just sucked the juices out of. I finished it off. Yummy, tastes nutty, texture “pura mantaquilla” (pure butter) como se dicen.

  • Small footbridge over one of the many streams bubbling through the forest in Llovizna Park, Bolivar state in Venezuela. Curves and sharpening in Photoshop CS3 Pentax K110D | Pentax DA 18-55mm | Tiffen Circular Polarizer and Tiffen 2 stop ND | Tripod

  • A wreath or crown decorated with beads and feathers. This wreath was gifted to me by the eldest daughter of a family who I stayed with (tented in their back yard) for about two months in Canaima, Venezuela. She was so nervous to give it to me that she made the youngest daughter of the family do it. Only later did the mother tell me who it was really from. The sheepish smile on the girl’s face already belied the ruse however. I was rushing to leave on one of the harrowing flights that often took off from there cargo or weekend tourists. I thanked her and rushed off to the dirt runway. On my way there an elderly women sitting on her stoop busy with her own artesania laughingly asked me where i got the crownfrom, I told her upon which she informed me it was for a compromiso or engagement. I quickly found the pilot and plane. So I guess i am engaged…

  • We don’t really have fall in Venezuela, in fact we only have a dry season and a rainy one. I really miss the yellows and reds of fall in the US, but sometimes the trees flower beautifully and as they fall from the tree, they carpet the ground with the petals =) / This was taken in the early morning light, as the sun came up over the trees, the golden rays where caught by the spray created by the waterfall in the background, creating a golden haze that complemented the yellows of the petals =D Llovizna Park, Bolivar state. Pentax K110D | Pentax DA 18-55mm | Tiffen Circular Polarizer | Tripod

  • I had the pleasure of going to Plaza El Agua (Water Plaza), it sits right next to the Macagua hydroelectric dam and the Caroni Eco-Museum in Bolivar state, Venezuela. Families often come to the park and play with their children in the open fields, I came to catch the last golden rays of the sun as they are caught and reflected/refracted by the water fountains. / I met some great photographers from the city who had come to talk and shoot a few frames. / For me, who likes landscape photography, I usually include the human element with structures, but not the people themselves (I love slow shutter speeds and that doesn’t go well with photographing people), so it was difficult to compose, frame and shoot the angles I wanted without having someone walk into the frame. Still I had a blast and went home with some great images. • The world’s highest waterfall, shot as the sun rises.

  • Last weekend, I took a recent aquaintance of mine, Oscar (an established pro photographer) and his friend Leslie (she is learning and I have been told that she has a great eye for composition) to Llovizna Park for a nature photo shoot early in the morning. I took them to some of the deeper, off the path areas of the park and they were astounded by the beauty that was all around us. The sky was overcast which helped in some ways but in others it was a nuisance, all in all we had a good time and got some nice images before leaving. / This was one of my favorite images, you can see part of the main fall and many of the smaller falls in the background =D Pentax K110D | Sigma 10-20mm | Cokin Slim Holder with 2 stop grad ND | Giottos MT-9261 Tripod with MH-1001 Ball head
