“Root or Branch v 02” – abstract imagery inspired by nature. / Original Photography by Alys Griffiths
There are so many abstract images to be found in the backyard…I keep challenging myself to stay closer to home and find better things without feeling like i need to travel to find amazing things. I would recommend it for anyone.

This is a native perennial plant that grows wild in the northern areas in the US and southern Canada. This beautiful tiny flower is considered to be a weed, but very close inspection reveals a gorgeous little “treat”. This flower was no larger than my thumb nail (actually, it was considerably smaller). This specimen was photographed in late March of 2007, near Williamsport in north central Pennsylvania. It was growing among grasses and clover at the edge of a wooded area, where it was very damp in the spring. The flowers are so small and close to the ground that they could easily be missed by those casually walking by. This photo was taken “handheld” using a Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact-Macro lens with a Canon “Life-Size” adapter, mounted on a Canon EOS 10D camera. I laid on my stomach with the camera cradled on my hand, which was resting directly on the ground for stability. The entire plant was less than two inches tall, so it required getting “down ‘n dirty” to capture the shot. This image has not been retouched in any way. It has been left exactly as the camera camera captured it. © 2009 Gene Walls All copyright and reproduction rights are retained by the artist. The “Silverdust” Dusty Miller is such an interesting ornamental garden plant. The fronds are arranged in a spiral pattern and are covered with a soft “frosty” coating that is almost as delicate as a butterfly’s wings. The “lobes” tend to look like the antlers of a reindeer (or a famous cartoon moose, right rocky?) This photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D with a Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact-Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/60th sec at f/11. The camera’s ISO was set to 400. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release. Your comments are always welcome! Constructive criticism is appreciated. © 2009 Gene Walls All copyright and reproduction rights are retained by the artist. Not very original, I know ( : There was a water drops competition on inspi.re and I just had to try this. I kind of liked the way it turned out, the composition and the light, but I know that there are such stupendously awesome works along these lines in the bubble….. well, what can I say? let this be an homage to those wonderful artists!! Went back to Perry Georgia today to watch another Arabian horse show. Results turned out better using my new lens (70-200mm). I was in complete heaven!!!!!

Some more car-light timelapse fun. I like how the car disappears from one spot, switches lane, and appears on the other. Dont remember what exactly happened, but thats how the pic came out, all i did was make it more pinkie-blue
