THE SUBJECT:This spectacular flutterer is a wonderful specimen of Tisiphone abeona albifascia (Varied Sword-grass Brown Butterfly), a common Aussie species. THE LOCATION: / My subject was photographed alongside the track leading to Perch Hole the Queen’s Lake Nature Reserve, North Haven, just south of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a slightly overcast autumn afternoon. THE MAKING OF ‘Tisiphone abeona albifascia (Varied Sword-grass Brown Butterfly)’: / There not much to shoot that day and I was almost back to my car when lo and behold this beautiful butterfly zipped past in front of me and landed about three feet (one meter) away. Very rarely do I have much luck in photographing butterflies in the wild but this time I had enough time to move a little closer, set the camera up and make just one shot before it flew away. I am a bit disappointed that I could not have a little more time as the image seems just a little soft even after three applications of unsharpen mask but am still happy with this one and it should print well. / PS: By the way there was very little saturation made to this image. The butterfly really is this brilliant. / Fuji S9600: RAW, Macro, Manual focus, f/8 @ 1/60sec, ISO80, Low powered flash, Hand held. / S7RAW & Photoshop CS. FE Talis var I / Two images- one fractal and one photograph merged in textures section of FE. / Thankyou. / This time, the moon almost made it, for the madness had not entirely taken over. She watched the hares play boxing, having their meeting and pairing off and realised she must join forces with the Sun to make day or the west wind would exchange views with a North Easterly and wash out the seeds she had planted in their minds eye. In the meantime, mankind stoked its chimneys, polluted the airways, choked the rivers and continued to eat its way out of this world and into the next as quickly as possible.

There seams to be a prevailing misconception among people, including artists, that art is and should be a hobby not a business…

Its breeding habitat is dense coniferous forest, and two to five eggs are laid in a nest in a tree. / The Varied Thrush mainly feeds near the ground, where it forages for invertebrates, but will also eat berries and certain seeds. / The male has a striking appearance, being dark blue-gray above with bright orange wing bars, throat, lateral head stripe and underparts. It also has a black breast band and face mask. The female and juvenile birds are browner above and the orange is less striking with the breast band and face mask being a blotchy brown.
