  • Winter time in the Deep South is a twittering oasis for many migratory birds. Chickdadees stay here year round, but flocks from further north join the southern flocks for a big family reunion. • Our weekend drive recently took us through the old town of Morpeth and onto Dunkenfield across the flat farming area adjoining the Hunter River in NSW Australia. After a week of rain the countryside was magnificently green and beautiful. Dotted among the paddocks were still some reminders of yesteryear and on a little back road I found this wonderful old stone barn, complete with a rusty old roof and weather vane. Naturally I couldn’t resist it!! /

  • This is the view from one of our office windows. Taken from the top of Toft Green this is the view across the slopes of the river sides towards the Minster and the famous Rose Window. It shows how each decade has affected the styles of buildings and the windows they have used, from the Rose Window in the Minster to the humble skylight The amazing weather vane is a well known landmark in York, recently repaired after nearly being blown off in last years winds. • I was inspired by the poem of Happy Feet 5, written here she keeps it real, and lets the words that we think about YOU , flow into her pen.. thankyou , Iris A storm is a brewing and it’s calling my name / a storm is a brewing and it’s all in my brain. The thoughts are a swirling like twisters in my head / could this be the storm that I’ve become to dread? I feel like the Mad Hatter who has gone insane / and my thoughts are like the White Rabbit’s / who says “Rush, Rush, Rush / I’m late, late, late / Madness in my thoughts is again beginning to reign My hand takes the pen, / the pen with words starts to flow / the twisters that spin my thoughts are caught on paper / and kinder, friendlier winds start to blow. Now that what is left is a refreshing, gentle breeze / I realized that like Alice who on the ground knelt on her knees / I had fallen into a hole / I have fallen into RedBubble where writers itch / to take their magic pens and bare their very souls. Oh, Red Bubble, this time I put the blame on you for my anxiety / cause you have released the other side of the writer in me, / the one that speaks my truth, my fears, my rage, my realities. Do I dare with my truth out in the open now put the virgil down / and lay me down to rest? / Nay! I dare not, for the windvane never puts the ever-shifting winds / to a test. • Okay, all you sleuths from around the world … can you work out the answer? This was shot as a friend was driving away from the historic building. I spotted this view in his wing mirror and got him to slow down to a crawl so that I could manoeuvre myself into position to shoot this unusual view. If you don’t want to know the answer yet, don’t read any further, but this was solved by Sazfab on her first guess. Yes, it is the famous Victoria Memorial in Calcutta, India – a magnificent marble museum. And the huge bronze angel atop the dome is actually a weather vane! And yes, it does turn! I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F9.5, 1/500 sec, ISO 400, focal length 125mm.
