  • Photo of the front wing of a Pontiac in Vancouver, BC. I loved this car as soon as I saw it, parked across from a restaurant on the West side of Vancouver. The reflections just grabbed me and I had to have this…in a photo of course. © Lee Trujillo – ReflectionandLight.com / Arvada, Colorado

  • Despite increasing clouds from an approaching storm, this blue-eyed darner (Rhionaeschna multicolor) tried to sun itself in vain. Rain would arrive in a few hours, with falling temperature. The insect dragon probably waited out the rain under the broad, sheltering leaves. Vancouver, BC, 16 Jun 2009. Canon Rebel XSi (450D) / Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM / 1/200, f/5.6, 0.0, ISO 400, 200mm, hand held A version of this dragonfly image in 2×3 format is also available in my gallery.

  • A sun-warmed rock alongside a lakeshore made a fine perch for this striped meadowhawk (Sympetrum pallipes). When much larger darners dared to near this location, this ruddy dragonfly would chase after them. • This cheerful-looking paddle-tailed darner (Aeshna palmata) patrolled a large section of a lake at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, BC. Occasionally, the large dragonfly would pause on its broad sweeps and survey a small area, especially near trees, probably seeking insects that may be in the vicinity. Canon Rebel XSi / Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM / Canon EF 1.4x II / 1/250, f/8, -1/3, ISO 200, 280mm, hand held

  • A paddle-taled darner (Aeshna palmata) hovers near the shore of a small lake at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, BC. This dragonfly flew among many representing several different species. Sometimes, two dragons would encounter each other, and a rapid chase would ensue. Most of the time, these gossamer-winged creatures would quietly glide around the waterway on the hunt for food. Canon Rebel XSi / Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM / Canon EF 1.4x II / 1/250, f/8, -1/3, ISO 800, 280mm, hand held

  • A cardinal meadowhawk (Sympetrum illotum) sunning on a leaf near the shore of a quiet lake at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, BC. The warm afternoon sun casts a shadow of this dragonfly’s wings on its leaf-perch, revealing the tea-like color of the gossamer foils.
