  • And so I wait. Standing at the lakeside, waiting for the promise to be fulfilled… “Meet me at the lakeside when the snow has fallen” she whispered softly into my ear. So, here I am. Standing… waiting as memories of her gentle breath against my cheek warm my very soul. They said the sun would shine today, but instead I danced in the snow. And so I wait. - Paul Tupman Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Canada / March, 2008

  • This beach is a favored spot for people to take their dogs for walks or themselves without their dogs on low tide. Dig for clams, have little fires and just for an outing of picture taking! This beach has, at any time, always different scenes to be captured. Hope you like it and thank you for viewing! /

  • Vancouver Island’s best known lighthouse, at Fort Rodd National Historic Site near Victoria. Photographed in the bright afternoon light of the Pacific coast, there is no PS glow added to this one- the bright white of the lighthouse tower was that luminous all on its own!

  • Urban marketing in Vancouver, BC. A nice sentiment. Another example of phantom signage. If only more people were driven by love…

  • Featured in All Countries~Wetlands, Ponds, Lakes, Rivers I traveled 20 minutes by car to the marsh created by a beaver family where I have captured so many wonderful images. The young red winged blackbirds were flying, but still dependent on the adults. A beaver scurried away as I approached. A shot missed. I spent hours behind my camera, but great shots were not happening. Out of boredom, I shot this dragonfly, and until I came home and processed it on my computer, I didn’t realize that this image captured so much of what I feel about this beautiful place. Captured on Vancouver Island, Canada, near Campbell River, using a Nikon D300, mounted with a Nikkor f4 600 mm lens and 20 mm extension tube, ISO 400, f10, -0.33, 1/640s.

In October, mated adults return to their home territory to renovate their large nests in preparation for mating, followed by egg laying, and the raising of of their young. This image is one of a series of images shot in Delta, British Columbia, Canada, near the mouth of the Fraser River, capturing an eagle bringing “construction material” to the nest as part of the nest renovation. Bald eagles mate for life, and use the same nest each year. Nests can weigh as much as a ton. • 2nd Place in the Sea Gulls Only Challenge in the Vision of Flight Photography Group. Featured in “Dimensions” December 2009 A huge flock of gulls dominate the beach and skies at Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island, BC Canada during the herring spawn season when large volumes of herring eggs are washed ashore. There were places along the beach where this photograph was taken where the eggs were over a foot deep! Each spring, from late February to early April, the Pacific Herring return to protected areas along the east coast of Vancouver Island to spawn. The females will lay up to 20,000 eggs, which are then fertilized. The eggs become very sticky on contact with water, and will attach themselves to whatever they touch. The event brings literally thousands of marine birds and mammals to feed on the bounty including a great number and variety of gulls, rafts of sea-ducks such as Scoters, Scaup, Long-tailed and Northern Pintail ducks, Bald Eagles,California and Steller’s Sea Lions and Harbour Seals. Canon 40D / 1/800sec f8 ISO 400
