IN KEEPING WITH MY ZEN ATTITUDE AND LIFESTYLE, I LOVE THE ORIENTAL INFLUENCE IN FILM, FASHION, NOT ANIME, NOT GAMES BUT THE TRADITIONAL. SOME SAY IT IS A METHOD OF BONDAGE, MISOGYNIST ATTITUDE AND I AGREE, BUT LIKE BULLFIGHTING AND BOXING, ONE MUST TRAIN AND GIVE UP THE SELF TO BECOME WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO BE, AFTER ALL WE DO CHOOSE, DON’T WE NOW.

After reading about violinist Josh Bell’s experiment in Washington, D.C. (see my latest journal entry), I added text from the article in the Washington Post about Americans’ lack of aesthetic values to this photo of a sunset at Lake Martin. This photo is also included in this portfolio without the words seen here. Sometimes, it’s a good idea to just STAND AND STARE at the beauty around us!

The painting is based on a photo I took on Dartmoor a few years ago. The light was fantastic and I’ve expanded on that to create this vibrant landscape.
Life is a gift we must cherish in order to nourish it properly.

Blessed is the nation, whose God is the Lord.
I see these shiny stones on rings / On bracelets, pendants, other things / And jeweler’s promise, love it brings / Like angels on bejeweled wings / / I listen to the jeweler’s drone / About these trinkets he has shown / And realize that love is grown / Not bought with trinket’s shiny stone / / While all his trinkets he does shove / With promised passion, love thereof / I shake my head, know that’s not love / Not jeweled angels, but peaceful dove / / Not shiny stone, that’s love’s disguise / The twinkle she wants lies in my eyes / True love my gift, not jeweled lies / Her stone my heart, her love replies / / This fractal artwork was inspired by first hearing that old phrase that ‘Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend’, which then brought to mind how society preaches that love is something that can be bought or given a monetary value. This is such a sad, sad concept. / / I am so grateful that I have a real woman that places more value in my warm embrace, or subtle private joke that makes her laugh, than anything material I could ever give her. She knows I would give my life for her in a heartbeat, and treasures that gift far above any hard, lifeless rock. The only diamond my wife cares about is the one on her finger, because it symbolizes the day I gave my mind, body, soul, and heart to her forever. Don’t get me wrong, as I do buy my wife jewelry, such as the small, graceful, yet modest Black Hills Gold pendent of a heart I got her recently for her birthday, because I knew she really liked it. That is the point. It is the warmth that comes to her from knowing that I listened to her, and remembered those things she told me that is the real gift… not the dollar value of that gift. As for myself, my wife is my diamond, as she makes each day I live sparkle :) / / This was created in ChaosPro. The original is 4800×4800 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. The gradient was created in the ChaosPro gradient editor that comes bundled with ChaosPro. This artwork is difficult to see over the internet, so I have included a couple of / detail cutaways below to better give a feeling for the artwork. / / / / / /
Web spun from tangled silk of lies / Woven from truth held in disguise / Where trust ensnared, betrayed it dies / No greater thing do I despise / / Web better built from silk of gold / Woven from truth all can behold / Where trust is free, instead of sold / No greater thing when truth is told / / So earn my trust, earn my respect / Tell me not truths that are suspect / For if false truth I do detect / Then trust from you I can’t expect / / This fractal artwork was inspired by an old quotation from Sir Walter Scott about lying that went ‘Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive’. My biggest pet peave are liars, and always has been. The artwork depicts how a lie can go on to exponentially effect the lives of others to whom the lie is passed. / / The greatest example currently is the war in Iraq, which was started from a lie to the American public by it’s leader that Iraq had stockpiled ‘weapons of mass destruction’ and intended to use them. This one lie has devastated families and ruined economies across the globe. / / The greatest thing I respect in an individual is their ability to be honest, as then I can grant them the trust that all other things in the relationship will bloom from. So always remember this quotation, as well as, another old adage that says ‘The truth shall set you free!’. / / This fractal artwork was created in Apophysis. The original is 6000×6000 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. The fractal gradient was created with ApoMap, a gradient editor commonly used with Apophysis. Because the original is so large and difficult to see over the internet, I have included a couple of detail cutaways below. / / / / / /
Going green is a slogan and not a bad one, better to be green inside and live and let live, try abstaining from eating all types of meat once or twice a week. Start to think of all animals as fellow citizens on the planet, instead of thinking that pets are pets which you don’t eat and that some animals are acceptable to eat which is a form of discrimination and very cruel, they have to die before you can eat them and then chopped up into pieces…the majority of people are not just going to stop eating animals but you can start eating less and less animals one day at a time…you never know one day you just might stop altogether eating animals…it could happen someday…when pigs fly but you might want to know that some animals are being cloned and are available in grocery stores for you to eat…think about that you already have traces of Styrofoam and other unknown man made toxins in your body…next Soylent Green which will give new meaning to “going green”…scientist are experimenting with flying pigs too much time on their hands…ha ha.

...of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering. / ~ A.A. Milne
Our lives are bound with the EGO. We believe in self centered life and our visions grow from our own self. Only a few humans live a life freed from the EGO. Some are born free and many earn this freedom after a long struggle, with inner self. We live many lives in a single life. Each one has individual importance and purpose. But the life takes us on the path of eternity is less lived. When it’s lived, it enlightens the entire life of the individual and the rest near to him or her. We are unfortunate that there is no school or university to take us on the way to eternity. Every individual has to follow his or her unique path. I captured this photograph of a small girl of one of my neighbor few days back. Captured in natural light, I tried to present the most valuable character of human life in childhood and on the way to eternity – Innocence. Straight from the camera, no post processing. Equipment : Canon EOS 400D and EF 75 – 300 mm lens.
/ A child sees the beauty we have long forgotten / treasures we have yet to find / A child knows trust beyond suspicion / A child has an innocent mind Love is given without question / A touch a kiss a moment shared / A Little blessing born from passion / All open and giving without a care But shatter that with careless thought / examples set that cause them pain / A child will quickly lose their innocence / and never be able to trust again So think about your precious child / Be a parent who holds love dear / Teach good values and gentle kindness / and show your child / they have nothing to fear by: Janice M Pickett / /
